Zoso, also known as the Dark One, was a terrifying entity with unmatched magical powers. He was later killed by Rumpelstiltskin.
History
Season One
The being known as the Dark One was an unmatched sorcerer who used his powers to force parents to send their kids off to fight in The Ogre Wars under the auspices of The Duke. However, despite his abilities, the Dark One was little more than a slave used by the Duke to carry out his brutal will, due to the latter's possession of a magical dagger which was the source of the Dark One's power.
Seeking freedom from the Duke's control, the Dark One manipulated the coward known as Rumpelstiltskin by disguising himself as a poor beggar who offered him and his son Baelfire shelter when fleeing from the Duke and his knights.
After convincing Rumpelstilskin to burn down the Duke's castle, steal the magic dagger, and keep the Dark One as his own slave, Zoso went on to viciously insult Rumpelstilskin to the point where he stabbed him in a blind rage.
Upon dying and reverting back to his human form, the Dark One lamented that his life was a great burden, and that Rumpelstiltskin was the perfect pawn in ensuing his death because he, like the Dark One himself, was a desperate man.
