For Prince Charming's twin brother, see Prince James.
James is Eudora's husband who enlisted in a war as a cook but helped win the war by taking up arms as a soldier. For his heroism, he is awarded the Firefly Ruby medallion. He gains the title of prince, and with Eudora, he rebuilds the land into a kingdom. The couple eventually has a daughter named Tiana. ("Greenbacks")
Tiana becomes close friends with Lottie La Bouff, the daughter of Eli La Bouff, one of James's fellow soldiers. One day, when James arrives to pick Tiana up from a playdate with Lottie, Eli reveals to James that he owes money to Henry and Harvey Fenner, a pair of wealthy warlords from within the kingdom, but does not have enough to pay them off and protect his family. Eli wants James to use his position to get the debt forgiven, but James is hesitant, so he leaves to give him time to think about it. James later discusses Eli's request with Eudora, stating that, as a soldier and Eli's friend, he wants to help, but as the king, he knows that he shouldn't get involved and can't afford to pay off the debt himself due to the kingdom's financial struggles. Eudora assures James that he will make the right choice. James comes to a decision and decides to go speak with Eli, bringing Tiana along so that she can see Lottie. However, as they leave the palace, the Fenner brothers arrive and ominously assure James that he no longer needs to worry about his friend's debt. Suspicious, James orders the carriage driver to hurry to Eli's house. Sure enough, he finds it up in flames. As Tiana watches worriedly, James enters the house and manages to save Lottie, but she begs him to go back in and find her father. James complies, leaving Lottie with Tiana and their guards, but the house collapses on top of him, killing both men. ("What You Give")
Years after James's death, Eudora and Tiana continue to struggle financially because of the king's tyranny and are forced to sell off valuables from their estate. Tiana decides to look for a hero like her father who can rescue her from the situation, but after seeing how the common people are suffering due to the king's taxes, she is encouraged by Eudora to help them by being her own hero as she is meant to carry on her father's legacy.
