Eli La Bouff is an upcoming character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. He will debut in the third episode of the ninth season, and will be portrayed by Toby Stephens.[1]

Eli La Bouff is based on Eli "Big Daddy" La Bouff from the Disney film The Princess and the Frog.

History

After Fourth Curse
Eli serves alongside James in a war. After the war is over, Eli marries and has a daughter named Lottie, but his wife dies under unknown circumstances, leaving him to raise Lottie alone. As his finances dwindle, Eli gets himself indebted to Henry and Harvey Fenner, two local warlords.

Lottie grows up as a close friend of James's daughter, Tiana. One day, while Tiana is over to play with Lottie, the Fenner Brothers visit to pressure James into paying his debt. James arrives to say hello to Eli before taking Tiana back home and overhears the conversation. Once the Fenner Brothers leave, Eli admits the truth behind his finances and asks James, who is now a king, to get the Fenner Brothers to forgive the debt. James wants to help his friend but is hesitant to abuse his position as king and leaves to think about it. Sometime later, the Fenner Brothers have grown tired of waiting and elect to have Eli's house set on fire while he and Lottie are inside. James arrives in time to save Lottie, but when he goes back in to save Eli, the house collapses on top of them. ("What You Give")

Lottie grows up blaming Tiana and James for her father's death, eventually becoming a ruthless businesswoman herself to protect herself from suffering the same fate as Eli. ("Keep On Believing")
