The gates of hell are in my house?

Emma to Mr. Gold src

The Underbrooke Swan House is an Underworld location on ABC's Once Upon a Time. It first appears in the fourteenth episode of the fifth season.

This location is based on the Swan house.

History

During First Curse

The Underbrooke Swan house forms in the Underworld after Hades remodels this world to resemble the town of Storybrooke. ("Our Decay")

After Third Curse

Mr. Gold locates his ex-wife Milah in the Underworld and convinces her to aid him in rescuing her former lover Hook from Hades. Emma joins them for the task and they go to the Underbrooke replica of Emma's Storybrooke house, where they find a basement door that can help them reach Hades' Lair, but it has a protection spell that Hades put there. Mr. Gold extends Milah's aura by having them join hands, which gets them successfully past the spell and into the tunnels of the detention level. After Hook escapes Hades' Lair, Mr. Gold teleports himself, Emma, and Hook back to the building. Hook recuperates at the house, where Emma's family, Regina and Robin Hood find the trio. Hook confronts Mr. Gold for using his sacrifice to regain his Dark One powers, but since Mr. Gold helped rescue him, he decides to call things even for now. Regina attempts a heart split between Emma and Hook, but a barrier prevents her from taking out Emma's heart. ("Devil's Due")

Relocating to her house, Emma heals Hook's wounds with magic, but when she tries to kiss him, he turns away from her. Recalling his time as a Dark One, Hook expresses disgust at himself for being so weak, because he gave into darkness so quickly. Emma reasons that he wasn't in the end, but Hook thinks he simply doesn't measure up. She points out that she wouldn't have come to find him if he hadn't become good, though he is doubtful about whether he deserves saving. They are visited by his brother Liam, and the three of them sit down at the dining table to talk. Hook develops a theory that Hades has rigged everything so people can't move on after Liam admits he doesn't know what his own unfinished business is. Going by Killian's idea about taking down Hades, Liam mentions those who tried to had spoken of a book. Suspecting the storybook can reveal Hades' weakness, they head off to the Underbrooke version of the Blanchard loft to find it. ("The Brothers Jones")

  5. Abrams, Natalie (May 6, 2016). Once Upon a Time bosses answer your burning questions. Entertainment Weekly. “Is there a meaning behind the nursery in Emma's house in the Underworld? KITSIS: The meaning is, like when Rumple goes to his shop and we see a lot of the things from his past are there in his face, it's the past coming back to haunt you. We did it visually to remind Emma of that time, here’s the nursery she never got to live in.”
