For the Storybrooke location with a similar name, see Toll Bridge. |
The Troll Bridge is an Enchanted Forest location on ABC's Once Upon a Time. It first appears in the third episode of the first season.
The Troll Bridge is based on the bridge from the fairytale, "Three Billy Goats Gruff".
History
Snow White steals Prince Charming's bag of jewels and sells them to the trolls on the bridge. Charming forces Snow White to help him get them back or else he will turn her into the Queen, who is searching for her. She leads him to the Troll Bridge and tries to barter back the jewelry, but the trolls dislike that she brought a stranger. They see the wanted poster of Snow White, and decide it would be better to give her to the Queen so they can have a big ransom. Charming refuses to allow that, and a fight ensues. Snow White manages to get away, but Charming is pinned down by the trolls. She goes back for him, and turns the trolls into bugs by throwing fairy dust on them. ("Snow Falls")
Living under a bridge, the trolls deal in trading jewels for gold. On the queen's orders, they attack Snow White as she approaches. Prince Charming is caught up in the scuffle and captured while she flees. After noticing he is still entrapped, Snow White grabs a handful of sand and pretends it is fairy dust. She threatens to use the fairy dust to turn the trolls into bugs, to which they let Prince Charming go and retreat. ("There's No Place Like Home")
Trivia
On-Screen Notes
- In Storybrooke, at the Toll Bridge, the "Toll Bridge" sign has a little 'r' graffitied on the sign, which makes the word "Troll Bridge".[1] ("Snow Falls")
- In both Troll and Toll Bridge, Snow White/Mary Margaret and Prince Charming/David meet up. ("Snow Falls," "The Shepherd")
Set Dressing
- Anglo-Saxon runes are etched into a wooden beam across the entrance to the bridge: ᚹᚳᛉᚳᚾᛁᚠᚱᛁᚳᛁ[2] (note that some of the characters are mirror-inverted). However, they produce nothing but gibberish (WCXCNIFRICI) when translated. ("Snow Falls")
- The wooden beam across the entrance to the bridge,[2] and the carved stone figures supporting it,[3] are reused for the bridge that Snow White and Prince Charming cross with Cruella De Vil, Maleficent and Ursula in "Unforgiven".[4]
