Flashback. Hallucination. Dream sequence. Ghost cameo. Trip to the Underworld. Just because a character is dead doesn't mean we'll never see them again, especially when it comes to this show.

Well, yeah I thought about those options but since we don't have a character associated with her story so he can hallucinate or dream of her.

Anyway I am excited to see Cruella once again.

    • No way, if she shows up and Maleficent does not I'll be officially pissed. But okay, I loved her so I'm glad, it's either the Underworld or something messes up the worlds. I prefer the latter.

But still, even if it's too much, even just 1 scene or cameo would be nice, they have 2 episodes and they already managed to cram lots of stuff into the 100th episode, so they could do it, depends on the actors.

I don't think Lily deserves to be in the finale, she was only in 4 episodes after all. I'd have this conversation:

      Emma: Where's Lily?

      Maleficent: She's with her father.

Because the characters are either very episodic, or the actors/actresses are busy with other projects. Out of the things you listed, only Peter Pan, Gideon, Ursula, Cruella, and the fairies (if by that you mean Blue) are likely to happen. Some are on the fence, depending on actor's schedules, those would be Phillip, Aurora, Tinkerbell, Ariel, and Red. All the rest are highly, highly unlikely to show up, with some like Count of Monte Cristo and OUATIW characters being a definite no. Finally, The Guardian and The Witch Killer will be revealed, but are almost certainly characters who have already been seen this season.

EW has learned that original stars Jared Gilmore (Henry Mills), Bev Elliott (Granny), Lee Arenberg (Grumpy), Tony Amendola (Geppetto), and Keegan Connor Tracy (Blue Fairy), along with later additions Joanna Garcia (Ariel), Robbie Kay (Peter Pan), Sean Maguire (Robin Hood), and Victoria Smurfit (Cruella de Vil), are all set to return in one or both of the final two episodes of the series, EW has learned.

As previously announced, Once Upon a Time will end its run after season 7. These won’t be the only actors returning for the last installments, as additional talent is expected to be announced soon. It could always be a flashback. However, if they did want to show him in the "present day" as the original Robin Hood, this show has already given us multiple methods to contact the dead - it would be by no means a stretch for Regina or female Robin to try and contact his ghost (or whatever form) via some magical artifact.

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • About Robin (Hood):

Robin of Locksley and Evil Queen (Serum) return?

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • Yes, but original Robin has no ghost or soul. They made that clear in S5 if I’m remember correctly. He can’t be resurrected

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • Avengingoncer wrote:

I'm not talking resurrection. But they can always come up with another method to reach Original Robin regardless of wherever he is or what he is.

They did say that his soul was obliterated but then in early season 6, the writers went back and told us that maybe Hades was lying and Robin went to a better place after all. So now it's up in the air if they want to confirm it canonically or not.

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • I think this is original Robin, we'll see him moving on, Wish Robin seems pointless because his story is over, I mean we will see other dead characters.

You know what return I'm waiting for anyway.

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • Henry said that, but in that case Zeus would have returned Robin to land of the living as well, just like he did with Hook

The cristal was said to have enough power to kill a god. It's safe to say Robin's soul was obliterated.

If Robin returns I think it could a flashback, but how many flashback can they show in a 1 hour episode?

I mean, as much as I hate to say it, Hook sorta did play a bigger role in defeating Hades than Robin  did.

On the contrary, Robin's soul simply *died*. Whereas Hook, was moving on through the Underworld. Although, one would think that Robin would have unfinished business.

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • Fairly curious how Cruella will fit into the timeline, since she has been there for fifty years I believe? And I'm pretty sure time in the underworld moved the same.

As for Pan...well, he's, like Aine mentioned, deader than dead. Maybe his soul is released from his watery doom by Arthur?

        Preparing Editor Spell

CGI characters could come back, but I'm not sure how likely those 3 are. Pan's shadow is a maybe since Pan is back, but I highly doubt we would see Grand Pabbie or Chernabog.

    • My theories on how some characters will return in the series finale.

-Victoria Smurfit (Cruella De Vil): We last left the Underworld, Arthur and Cruella, in their respective ways trying to take control of the Underworld. Arthur in a good way and Cruella in an evil way. I think the two will clash. I think we'll see in these episodes, Cruella has successfully taken control, in large part because so far the Liam Garrigan (King Arthur) not appearing. That said, we'll see the Underworld again with characters dying and resurrecting.

-Robbie Kay (Peter Pan): Rumple will died. That's the only way, he'll have his happy ending. To be reunited with Belle and Bae in death. Peter Pan will be a part of Rumple's seeing his life flashing before his eyes before he dies.

-Sean Maguire (Robin Hook): Regina will end up with her true love, Robin. Robin will be resurrected, either by Zeus or Dr. Faciller's. Dr. Faciller will either be good and willingly (albeit begrudgingly) resurrect Robin i.e. sacrifice his own life to bring Robin back or be bad and used to resurrect Robin. Either way, it will be a life for a life. Dr. Faciller's life for Robin's life.

My theories on how some characters will return in the series finale.

We already know that Arthur indeed ended up ruling over the Underworld.

I'm sure they'll be showing new scenes of Pan doing who knows what since if all he was going to be was a memory, they would just use archived footage.

There's always a chance, but they just announced the bigger 4, so I personally don't know why they would? We already kinda expect some more dwarves, Eric, and Archie, but those people don't really fall into a "save for surprise" category. I wouldn't count on it but maybe if they asked some people that they had in mind for a group scene or something and they surprisingly become available in the next week? I mean Aurora, Will, and Ana (Red Queen) should all be alive in present day, and Aurora and Will were both in SB last we saw them. So who knows, maybe they will show up. Stranger things have happened.

Emma and Raphael have already been deleted from IMDb; so I really don't think we should give credit to whatever is written on that website.

Clearly, it is people adding stuff they don't know.

Smee and Blackbeard weren't in the finale, and are nowhere near as big a deal as Anastasia or Will returning

I wouldn't consider Will or Ana a big deal, especially since if they return it is probably a very small role.

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • I just think it's unlikely because they had a small role on the show, and Ana never appeared in the main one, so they would have no place in the finale, they already sent off Belle and Ariel probably in one scene, Pan, Robin and Cruella likely for 7x21, it seems like they want to focus on the mains for the series finale, plus Emma and the Charmings, that's what I'm hoping for at least, even though I kinda wanted a big scene with all these iconic fairy tale characters leaving Storybrooke. I guess it's not gonna happen :(

    • If Will and Ana do return it will most likely be a brief glimpse of them standing together. Or maybe even an image in a book with the tale of how they were reunited or why they separated to the side. Which will be good enough for me.  I guess I just really needed a second season of OUAT in Wonderland to ever be truly satisfied.

If they are returning along with Aurora, I'm betting it will be a quick montage of characters rather than a vignette episode. That or another "what if" scenario that we don't need.

But until I see something more solid than IMBD I'm not getting my hopes up.

Once Upon a Time fans are getting an Outlaw Queen reunion between Regina (Lana Parrilla) and Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) before the series ends! Parrilla dished to TV Guide about Maguire's big return to the show while promoting her directorial debut episode airing Friday, April 13.

"Yes, you will see Robin and Regina in a scene together," Parrilla said. Maguire returns in the penultimate episode of the series, but it will be a magical reunion according to his scene partner. "It is all of what you hoped. It's beautiful and it's Outlaw Queen. It's their beautiful dream and their loving relationship."

Regina may have started a little somethin', somethin' with Dr. Facilier (Daniel Francis) in recent episodes, but apparently the spark is still there between Parrilla and Maguire, who gushed about working with him again.

"For me, as the actor playing Regina, it was so much fun to tell that story once again," she said. "I really missed working with Sean Maguire. It was so comfortable and so easy. It was a dynamic and relationship that I've always supported so it was really nice to have him back again."

I'm wondering if Gepetto's parents get "uncursed" since he's going to appear. Especially since we saw the puppets just recently in a tweet. It would be a happy ending for Jiminy and Gepetto. I don't see us getting anything like that, but it would be a touching scene for me since it has always bothered me that no one seems to have even attempted to help them. (you're telling me the Blue Fairy can bring a puppet to life that never had life but can't disenchant two real humans who are cursed?)

As for other minor characters, it's a shame it doesn't look like Ashley, Aurora, Red and Mulan aren't coming back for at least a scene.

Geppetto's parents are prolly their WR versions, since WR will be very important for 721/22 and the "FTL" scenes in which the puppets where seen from the set are most likely there.

Yes, anything is possible. It is possible that lots of actors we don't know about filmed. Only a few have specifically confirmed they didn't. The bigger question isn't is it possible, but is it probable that all these actors filmed. And that answer is most likely a no, for most actors.

That wasn't him hinting his return, that was him trying to get the writers to put him in, since Ariel was returning. Obviously the writers didn't have the time/budget/etc. to put him in. I mean the actors still want to get payed if they are a credited character, and I'm sure ABC didn't just say that they would pay for as many people who wanted to come back to come back, especially if they would just be a glorified extra in the episode. So it probably wasn't a completely open invite, but more of a selective invite to many major characters.

      Yeah I get you.

Though the rates depend on how long the actor will be shooting and how important or grand his appearance is. For example, Gil would have gotten 1/10 of what JMo got, and sometimes actors do cameos for just a small amount of money, depends on how big the actor is but various things are considered. From what I gathered working in the media, sometimes actors that keep a friendly relationship with the producers etc do unpaid cameos. They could have gotten, say, Jamie Dornan for an unpaid cameo as long as they paid his travelling expenses etc.

I'm sure if they did indeed send out open invitations they clarified that it'd be for cameos with small payment or unpaid.

And I am still wondering what Jessy Schram, Merrin Dungey, Kristin Bauer, Barbara Hershey and Tony Perez were doing in the offices since none of them are appearing in the final episdes (from what we know).

Forgot to mention this earlier, but Eric and Jasmine are not returning for the finale, based on what they said at the Chicago Con. Gil (Eric) flat out said he's not in, and Karen (Jasmine) said they wrapped her and Aladdin's story up in Season 6.
That is weird since Gil hinted his return...
That wasn't him hinting his return, that was him trying to get the writers to put him in, since Ariel was returning. Obviously the writers didn't have the time/budget/etc. to put him in. I'm sure other actors would have been willing to come back as well, that aren't in, just due to time and budget constraints.
Well if they indeed sent an open invitation, I'm sure that they would have fitted everyone even as a passerby or a cameo.

Probably something for a DVD/Bluray bonus feature, like Lady R said. Joana Metriss (Gwen) was also there, btw, among people who are in the episode like Robbie (Pan) and Victoria (Cruella).

I'm sure we are getting at least a DVD. They know the show has a big following that pay for merchandise.

Unless your informant is a writer or a producer, they wouldn't know 100% of the people returning, so let's see who actually shows up in the episodes.
