What's your ranking for the eight songs in the musical episode, and why? Mine goes...
- "Wicked Always Wins" - I might be a little biased because Zelena's one of my favorite characters, but I absolutely loved this. Bex has a beautiful voice, and the song just felt very Zelena-y. The composers nailed it with her character; the lyrics definitely represented the character we've come to know over four seasons and managed to include some very great distinctions ("What they call green with envy, I just call looking good!")
- "Love Doesn't Stand a Chance" - Definitely the most fun of all the songs. You can tell Lana really enjoyed it, too. While she's not the strongest singer, I think she more than made up for it with her dance skills, other actions (tormenting the dwarfs, Pinocchio, and destroying Emma's baby blanket), and the lyrics to the song itself. This was only the second song released, but definitely one of the ones that stuck with me most.
- "Emma's Theme" - Honestly I didn't expect Jennifer Morrison to have such a beautiful voice. I was very blown away by her performance, and the song itself really made me root and feel for Emma. I've spent most of 6B despising her, not gonna lie, but this song made me forget all of that. I actually got goosebumps the first time I heard it. My only complaint is how much shorter it was than the others!
- "Powerful Magic" - Of all the songs, this one sounds the most like it was ripped from a Disney movie. Some might not like that, I myself expected to cringe hard to this one, but I really enjoyed it. Ginny and Josh are both pretty good, and I think the song itself did justice for both Snow and Charming. I actually think most of the songs did justice for the characters singing, but yeah this one was cute. Not much else to say, really.
- "A Happy Beginning" - I didn't like this one as much at first, but I think that's because this is the kind of song that's better to watch than hear. Having heard it enough times I've come to appreciate it more, and I'm happy this number exists and everyone (minus Belle and Rumple, which I'm still extremely bitter about) get to take part in it. It made me look back on the show in a positive light which is not always easy to do.
- "Revenge Is Gonna Be Mine" - This being the first song released, I really wasn't that impressed. I'll admit Colin is a pretty good singer, but I just wasn't feeling the song. It, itself, just felt pretty irrelevant to now as his feud with Rumple hasn't been a major plot-point since the second (or I supppose fourth) season. However, I'll admit that listening to it like 30 more times (like I have all of the songs) I've come to like it more.
- "The Queen Sings" - I feel bad ranking this so low as I really did enjoy it. I honestly wish this and "Love Doesn't Stand a Chance" were just released as one song because that's what I see it as. All of the cameos were nice as well (apparently some people don't like Beverley's voice? I love it!)
- "Charmings vs. Evil Queen" - Not much to say since it was just a reprise of "Love Doesn't Stand a Chance" and "Powerful Magic". I guess that was a little disappointing since I expected an original, but I think this will be more fun to watch since it is Snow and Charming facing off with Regina. I guess we'll see.
I hope everyone else enjoys the songs as much as I did... and I went into it thinking I'd hate it, so I think that says something.
(Hope this is on the correct board. I don't think I've made a forum post before.)
