  • Ok, so I had a theory about the Sultan. My theory was that Jasmine's father was Mirza and Jafar became the vizier and controled his brother, making him Jasmine's uncle, but I just found out Jafar killed Mizra, so that ruins my theory. In that case who is this Sultan and what happened to the one from Once Upon A Time in Wonderland? Did this guy take over after Jafar kidnapped the other Sultan?

    • It was explained via twitter.

Jasmine's father rules the Capital City province of Agrabah (and thus the entire region). Jafar's father ruled one of the other provinces of Agrabah.

    • Ok, sort of like how (at least in the book) the four witches of Oz each rule a corner of Oz, but the wizard rules the capital city and rules all of Oz

P.S. is Wonderland even canon in Once or not, they hinted at Anastasia being Cinderella's stepsister, though they also hinted at Dr. Frankenstine being the Wizard of Oz

    • Well, sort of.

Wonderland is canon. Adam and Eddy have said it numerous times, so I'd believe them. They left Ana's backstory vague enough, because timeline-wise, Ana couldn't be Ella's stepsister. Also, Whale was never hinted afaik to be the Wizard of Oz.

    • You have a point, maybe Ana is just an orginal character, well she's the Red Queen, but you know what I mena maybe her backstory is orginal, and Whale was hinted to be the wizard; he was refered to as a wizard and Jefferson said "off they would go to see him" and etc.

Lol, but Jefferson said "Wizard" because Regina doesn't know what a scientist is and Regina was looking for a magical soultion. That's a bit of a stretch.

The writers set things up in a vague way so that they can take them multiple directions. And Ana is still a reference to the Cinderella story regardless of if she is related to Cinderella or not. A girl with sisters, including a stepsister who married a prince, is very much a Cinderella allusion. As far as Whale/Victor, I think they did him vague enough, so that they could make him the Wizard, if they wanted to, but in the end decided not to do it, as it wouldn't fit the timeline they wanted to do with Zelena. Finally, Esk answered your original question. Agrabah is a region and each city has it's own Sultan.

    • I think Jefferson referring to Victor as a "Wizard" was just an intentional red herring to build up his reveal, since this was the first episode to reveal that Whale was Victor Frankenstein. It was a reveal that they had been teasing for over a Season. ¬†
