Go, go, Macguffins, go!
So...what? Guess Dorothy would be a savior too...

I liked it, but yeah we seem to be in the minority.
We really seem to be in the smallest minority here ever lol

Everyone's confused because this information came from twitter. People who don't read Adam's twitter could not figure it out with a vague "Capital of Agrabah" cause the last time Agrabah was shown it simply was "Agrabah" so they must not be the same, but I guess it's the viewers' fault for not catching up with Adam's twitter.
well excuse me for not having twitter...
I'm not blaming you or anyone who doesn't have a twitter, I was being sarcastic because obviously no one should own a twitter to understand what happens on the show.
exactly! so stupid. like i was doing a harry potter quiz, and some answers were not from the books (which i have read many times) but from pottermore.
If my previous comments indicate that I didn't like the episode, let me clarify. I thought it was a decent episode. Clearly the casting and acting for Al and Jas was spot on (even if Deniz has a bit of an accent, he is very believable, and did a marvelous job with his portrayal, as does Karen with Jas). I also liked Jafar (though I still do miss Naveen). The twist on the Aladdin story definitely drew in elements from the Disney version (including the iconic hourglass), but was also definitely given a proper Once twist that was enjoyable. From that aspect, this was a good episode. And that they finally tied Aladdin to Emma (which was hinted at in "The Savior") was also done well.
The fact that I see more than a few unanswered questions, as well as lack of movement in already established story lines, is what concerns me. As I said in my previous comment, we got more questions, and not really any answers. How well the episode is in the long haul depends on if we get payoff from all the questions raised. If the rest of the season builds on these questions and resolves them, then this episode did its job well. if not, then it was a poor insertion into the story line.
Some stray observations:
1 What was really the point of the day spa trip for Zelena and the EQ? That whole conversation falls into the unanswered question category. There is obviously some setup occuring, but what it is setting up is not very clear.
2 Archie changed to his Cricket form in Storybrooke. I found that amusing. Particularly with it hanging over Robyn's crib. How long until Emma and/or Regina come in to rescue the cricket?

Well Pottermore is Word of God (J.K. Rowling) canon, just as things Adam and Eddy say on Twitter about Once is Word of God canon. The creators/writers being the god of there creation. While it would be nice if everything could be in the main materials, you just don't have room for everything, so some things have to get pushed to suplemetary materials or answers in interviews/social media.
I quite liked this episode, but a couple more things annoyed me than last week.
First of all, can they stop using the word "Saviour" every 5 seconds? It's always been a corny word but at least they used it sparingly when referring to Emma before. Now it's just Saviour this, Saviour that until the word has lost all meaning.
Aladdin was basically Will, accent and all. I think Emma may have made one too many references to the movie. I mean, I know OUAT mostly takes inspiration from Disney movies nowadays but you don't need to admit it so much. It's worse than 5A starting off with Emma watching The Sword in the Stone. One reference I LOVED however, was when Aladdin said "I can show you the world". A very nicely placed gem to notice only if you're a big enough fan. I also liked how they did Aladdin and Jasmine's characters justice. Jasmine sticking up for herself when Aladdin makes out like she's spoilt and selfish, NICE.
I was expecting Emma and Co to come looking for Archie later on in the episode, but clearly they don't care. Even though there's an office full of his things to use for a locator spell but whatever. So far the EQ is kind of useless. I get how she's just sitting back and watching shit hit the fan, but she doesn't do her old self justice. I'm not impressed with Zelena still. After all this time she's spent being wicked over and over again, it's just getting boring.
Meanwhile the episode hasn't even touched on the fact that Regina can't get rid of her Dahk side without dying. Yet Henry gets plenty of time to whine about how it's his fault Emma is the Saviour. No it's not, Henry. It's Gold's fault. Yaknow, because he's actually an influential character. Having said that, where was he for all this? Rumple you better not be crying in your shop because you miss your long hair.
Hook keeping the scissors wasn't really a surprise twist, but I am interested in how that'll play out. But after all the strain that's been put on Captain Swan in Season 5, those 2 NEED to stop keeping secrets from one another. But Hook stopping Emma from being the Saviour to save her life would be a nice bit of karma for her making him a Dark One to save his life.
Still pleased that no one cares about David's father. Also glad to see no dwarves or fairies about.
I'm guessing by now that it won't really be Regina under the hood, and she'll just be preoccupied with EQ. It's not the first time something important has happened without the whole gang present, so I don't know why Emma is reading so much into her missing wife.
Overall a good episode, but not as good as the rest of the season so far. Can't wait for next week's.

The difference being you don't really need Pottermore material to understand the original Potter books as you read them because they were written first and it's possible to be quite satisfied with the books alone without touching Pottermore. But if you rely on social media and interviews for your writing to make sense to people as it is shown for the first time, that's not good. It should be possible to understand the show on its own as it is possible to understand the Potter books on their own.
I'm not really confused about the same thing as everyone else (because I haven't seen OUATW) but if other people are confused and the writers are relying on Twitter I'm not up for that.
Shame not to do a Genie, no? Since that's the main point of Aladdin's stories. If they don't wanna just make it Disney then change Jasmine's name, ditch the bird, stop hypnotising the Sultan, but there's no point in getting rid of the Genie. That's like doing the Little Mermaid without turning her into a human.
I agree in part. The Aladdin story from any variation has been about genies, so they essentially took Disney Aladdin and removed the genie aspect. So, for those that wanted DDI, it sucks, and for those that was originality, it sucks.

I don't think what they post on Twitter is absolutly nessisary though. Like you said, you didn't see Wonderland, and you followed what happened just fine. The point of something like Pottermore or Adam's Twitter is the same, to clarify things and give you additional information about things not important enough to make it into the main plot. At the same time, this additional information can really change subtext and other things in the work. For instance, using Harry Potter, (and this was from an interview not Pottermore, but still) Rowling revealing Dumbledore was gay totally changed the relationship between him and Grindewald and also how that all played out with his siblings and such. To me, it made the story so much deeper, because having to choose between a friend and your family and having to choose between a lover and your family are two very different things. It also gave more insight into Dumbledore's character overall. But yet, none of this was in the books (at least besides subtext), but it is part of the canon as it was in the creator's mind when writing. So while everything that is important is in the main plot of something, it doesn't mean the creator's additional information can not be very important and add to the understanding of what the creator's intention was.
