As we saw in the episode Enter the Dragon, Cora had Maleficent's spellbook amongst her belongings. Did they share a past? According to Kristin Bauer, Maleficent is immortal so it is possible they could've had a past in Cora's younger days. Thoughts?

I have two theories:
1. Malificent threw the book out during her depression and it changed hands until Cora found it by accident.
Or..
2. The same thing happened and Rumple was the one who found it and planted it for Regina to discover.
We still don't know much about Maleficent's backstory or even why she became evil in the first place before cursing Princess Aurora's mother, Briar Rose, with the first Sleeping Curse. Consequently, I have a theory that Maleficent's mother could be Carabosse (the name of the evil fairy who cursed Sleeping Beauty in the original tale), who in turn could have been friends with Cora. While Maleficent herself is not a fairy, it is possible that her mother was the Dark Fairy mentioned during the Neverland arc, which could potentially explain Maleficent's immortality. It is very possible that while Cora was raising Regina in her older years, Carabosse was also raising Maleficent, and both could have had plans for their daughters involving infiltrating the royal families.
I'm sure that with Cora and Maleficent both being very powerful, they met somewhere somehow. As far as we know, Maleficent is the only character in the universe that has the ability to turn into a dragon. I wonder if Cora helped her aquire this power. In the "Enter the Dragon" episode, Rumple told Regina that Maleficent cultivated a powerful magic with time.
To be honest, there can be a NUMBER of explanations, but it just feels like a wasted oppurtunity to me if they don't go down that path. Love those two characters
I completely agree, to be honest, I feel like they have too much on there plate for season six, the season hasn't even started and they've announced multiple storylines already. I feel like they leave a lot of missing pieces and then just move on.
I thought they were the same person. So is Maleficient Regina's mother?
Cora is Regina's mother. Maleficent is Regina's frenemy
So, I read Regina Rising, and I have a theory that very well might tie in. I think Claire Fairchild is Maleficint. Any evidence to thecontrary?

What's your evidence they're the same person?
They both look alike, but I know that's not enough... but from the way the book describes Claire's ring, it was a Dragon claw holding an open that she meant to give to her firstborn. That's all I can think of right now in my sleep deprived state...
