  • I wasn't sure which category to put this in, it's just a theory that has been growing inside my head for a while and I need to get it out for other OUAT fans to see. Of course, I would be very surprised if this actually happened because I'm not one of the OUAT writers, but hear me out.

With Arthur's apparently a villain, I was thinking about how he might become a reference to Scar. Dark hair, lion symbols everywhere, British accent. I know, I know...being a OUAT fan, naturally I'm going to stumble upon a minor detail and assume that it means something major.

So if Arthur would be Scar (he'd just have to get a scar during a fight), who would be Mufasa and Simba? Simple. The Knights of the Round Table seem to refer to each other as brothers; as Arthur did with David. There is an upcoming character named Sir Morgan, who may be a genderbent magicless version of Morgan Le Fey, who is an enemy and sibling of King Arthur in Arthurian Legend. Sir Morgan might be his enemy in OUAT and, in an attempt to take the throne or something like that, Arthur will kill him and in his rage, demand that Violet is exiled or killed too (he doesn't seem that villainous, but he's clearly not okay mentally). Violet might run away with Henry to the Vault of the Dark One where Henry might somehow know that Emma Swan could be hiding at the time. Why this of all places? Inside the Vault of the Dark One is a desolate area populated by flying darkness that seems to try and consume anyone who enters, but on the other side is a tropical jungle pocket dimension. In The Lion King, when Simba runs away he runs out of the kingdom and across the desert where he is nearly attacked by vultures until he is saved by Timon and Pumbaa who take him to their jungle oasis.

So who would be an allusion to Timon and Pumbaa? Emma Swan and the hallucination of Rumplestiltskin. I know, this may start sounding ridiculous, but Emma might feel the need to run away from her family and therefore escape into the Vault and hide out in the jungle dimension. She may sense Henry and/or Violet being attacked and save them from the darkness, and take them to the jungle dimension where Henry may convince Emma to let Violet stay. It's probably worth noting that Hallucination!Rumplestiltskin was briefly a warthog-like creature (a bandersnatch) in 5x01 ;)

Some time down the track, either in the jungle dimension or - most probably - in Storybrooke, Emma may convince Violet to take revenge on King Arthur and overthrow him. Violet is the offspring of Morgan, so she might train to become someone worthy of challenging Arthur who was an offspring of Morgan in Arthurian Legend - Mordred. But all of this probably won't happen, even though I think it'd make for a great allusion to the movie without having to introduce actual CGI lion characters named Simba, Mufasa and Scar. People would get the references. Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts or how you all think The Lion King would/could/should be adapted to OUAT.

    • Well, I think allusions are great, but:

-Arthur having dark hair is because the actor has it, lol.

-Lions are the most common thing for heraldry, but Arthur's sigil is a sea-dragon (or sea-wyvern)

-And......Arhtur is a British tale, obviously he would be British, lol.

I love your idea, but it's a stretch, a very, very wide one. The closet one I got is "I just can't wait to be king" from Young Arthur and baby Regina being held up over a crowd.

    • Don't forget Emma's comment at the beginning of the S3 Finale. She made a definite and obvious allusion and callout to the Lion King.

Still, I don't see the Lion King being done.  Hamlet, on the other hand, could be fair game. particularly with some of the other shakespearian allusions that have been occuring (and I'm still seeing a Romeo & Juliet vibe with Henry and Violet).

Lion King IS essentially Hamlet. I could see them doing Hamlet characters named as their Lion King counterparts (Hamlet being Simba, Claudius being Scar, etc.) and then instead of Pride Rock (Lion King) or Denmark (Hamlet), the kingdom itself could be called Hamlet.

I don't think we'll get Hamlet this season, since we've obviously left Camelot and we're going into... uncharted territories. But Hamlet could easily be in the Enchanted Forest.
