  • Something big really big will happen in  510 when Excalibur is complete again..... As we can see from one pic from the set yesterday................ Excalibur is complete. And on this sword we can read... Emma Swan but also.... KILLIAN JONES!!!

    https://twitter.com/OUAT_Source_FR/status/654651823425327105

It deservers its own topic. So, what do you think? Two dark ones? Emma sacrifices Hook's heart and gave him one half of it, changing him into a half of Dark One?

    • Just when I was getting more into Emma and Hook's relationship, I am put off by this revelation. I rather he weilded the sword with Emma's name and not some weird contrivance where both of their names are on it and he is fighting with the strength of their love against random Rumple.

I just think it looks weird or at least bad to have writing on Excalibur and would think that would pnly apply to the Dagger and it's curse.

Plus, Does Rumple not have a last name, or is it because his name was just very, very long? (No abbreviations XD)

Arthur pulled the Sword in the Stone long before, Merlin gave Emma that cryptic warning about Excalibur. Originally, Merlin was not going to be in the premiere.

      Also, two names:

      One is the Dark One

the other is the one that pulled Excalibur (or the one that put it together).

I would not label it the Light One, per se.

It might be along the lines of the Apprentice's wand, which requires both Light and Dark magic to use. When made whole, Excalibur probably represents unified magic.... both sides of the same coin.

Actually, I read a similar theory last night.

Hook offered up his heart in Camelot, so Emma could cast the curse to send everyone back to Storybrooke. She then ripped her own heart out, and put it into his chest. This rendered Emma unable to fight against the Darkness within her, and completed her transformation into the Dark Swan.

Which is not too surprising, since Excalibur is generally depicted as such.

Ha, shippers make up the lamest stuff.

No.... I was referring, to how Emma could have easily hidden the door to her basement, with magic. To how OUaT is slowing building up, to Hook teaming up with a few characters, to break into said basement. To how the Dark Swan wants Hook to trust her, yet seems satisfied that she cannot manipulate him. Which brings me to the conclusion.... that Emma clearly wants Hook to steal Excalibur, because she already knows that he is the hero who will remove it from the stone.

Seriously, it's called foreshadowing. I don't need someone else to tell me how to draw logical conclusions. And I agree, there has been foreshadowing to this on the show.

Why would you think Hook did this?

He could easily have stolen the sword from whoever actually managed to take it from the stone and reunite it with the dagger.

If this WAS a weakened Gold (back to his pre-DO cowardly state) that accomplished this, then as Hook had bullied him in the past, he would see no compunction in doing so again.  Maybe Emma is forcing Gold to fight Hook in order to get the sword back?

Sorry - there is no way I can see Hook as hero material at all,  no matter how much the show creatives try to turn him around and 'sell' him to us.

    • I like the concept that Excalibur has two names on it, although I would've preferred it would not be Emma and Hook. I could even prefer to see Belle on the sword but meh.

I think they should've gone with Lily as the other half, as that was kinda established that Lily is Emma's other half. But they haven't let us seen anything of Lily and this is now pretty much confirmed to happen, so lost potential I guess.

According to legends, Excalibur can only be wielded by one person. The sword choses the hero, not the other way around. The name "Killian Jones" being emblazoned on the blade, only solidifies this classic concept. Hook would not be able to control Excalibur, unless he was the one who pulled it from the stone.

Similar to how the in LotR, the Shards of Narsil (reforged into Anduril) can only be wielded by the King of Gondor. Or how the Elder Wand in HP, would not attack its true owner.

    • I think Hook pulled out the sword and together with Emma reforged it, that's probably why his name on it. Why would Rumple be fighting him? Would Rumple still be evil and vengeful, or is there something else going on?

But when Emma took everyone's memories he forgot. So now since he doesn't know he won't figure it out afterall he never used magic before so why would he try since as far as HE knows nothing changed.

I do think you're jumping the gun here, but it is possible.

If Merlin did die, then Emma would have had to be the one that killed him, since only the Dark One has the power to kill Merlin.

It is not jumping the gun at all, since Nimue now believes that Emma will use Excalibur to snuff out the Light. Merlin foresaw two outcomes, to their journey.... one where Emma resists the Darkness, the other where Emma becomes the most powerful Dark One. What if both predictions come true?

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • Interesting thoughts. But I don't recall any names on the sword as of last night. and the fact that the sword in the picture has BOTH names on it give rise to the theory that Hook did indeed kill Merlin (whether accidentally or otherwise is yet to be seen) with the sword part of Excalibur back in Camelot.  and I would imagine that, since it is implied that the same spell that tethered the Dark one to the Dagger was used, then Killing Merlin with Excalibur transfers the tethering to the one that was wielding Excalibur at the time.

And having Killian tethered with Merlin's magic, while Emma is tethered with Nimue's magic, is a great parallel, given the relationship between Killian and Emma.

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • If that were to come true then that does mean that Hook can still speak to Merlin who is the first soul attached to the sword, just like Emma can talk to Nimue.

    • @Eskaver In last nights episode Merlin was bound to the sword in the same way as the dark one to the dagger. His name was emblazoned on it and Arthur controlled him the same way one controls the dark one. Now when the dark one dies WITH an heir(the one who killed them) they become the new Dark one and their name replaces their predecessor on the blade. If their is no heir the power is transfered to the vault where they can be resurrected. Now since the dagger and sword are in fact one object and they have been shown to share properties the ability to kill those who drank from the grail and control those same people. So if the name on the dagger marks one as The Dark One, and Merlin's name was emblazoned on the larger piece allowed the same effects then presumably all abilites would be shared correct? If so wouldn't the replacement of Merlins name signify the "changing of the guard" the same as the dagger?

You just answered it.... Merlin's magic is, probably, housed in the Apprentice's wand.

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • There may or may not be a vault for Merlin, we still don't know how the vault forms was it created by Nimue? Or was it a natural manifestation of the magic? What we have to consider is Merlin said the complete sword could destroy the magic and leave the host whole. Whereas the dagger could only kill the host, the magic is left intact. There is no difference between Merlin's and The Dark One's magic. If the dagger could kill the host and leave The Dark One's power intact and used as a medium to transfer the power. Also what did you mean that "Excalibur was blank'? The whole blade was blank in the flashback to the forging, but Arthur had Merlin bound to the sword and his name appeared on it. In the still Hook's name has replaced it. It isn't "currently" blank unless you have another image?

I would hate for them to kill off a black/POC character that was a slave and give that role and power to a white man being kileld by the white blonde har person. It's not a racial issue, but so many POC characters are dead, were enslaved , or were both!

The only thing that I am questioning, and I'll probably post this question in the episode thoughts thread in the Genral discussion area, is how Killian became a second DARK one by becoming tethered to Excalibur. Merlin was not Dark, even when he was controlled he was able to fight the dark tendencies.

Emma corrupted Merlin's magic and immortality, when she used the darkest of magic to create another Dark One. Also, Merlin did have darkness within him. He just chose never to act upon it.
