  • Ok, Here is a place for speculation.  I'm putting it in the Spoilers section because I will be using some spoilage. Specifically the fact that the gang is in possession of the apprentices wand.

The end of the Season 4 Finale had the Apprentice revealing that the gang needed to seek out Merlin.  Then he closes his eyes. It could have been death, or just passing out from the encounter.  I leave that as ambiguous until I am shown otherwise.

However, we now see that, by Episode 2 it appears, Regina and Zelena are trying to use the Apprentice's wand. And I'm not sure that it works for either of them.  The fact that they even have the wand, though suggests that the Apprentice, by this point, is either dead or incapacitated.

My theory goes something like this. The Apprentice is still alive at the beginning of Episode 1, regains consciousness long enough to pass important information about finding Merlin, and tells Regina to use his wand, then passes away. Regina trys the wand without success, somhow Zelena forces her way into the group and tries, equally unsuccessful. I think this may be where they wake up Rumple.  Even though he does not have his magic any more, he is still quite knowledgable, and is able to somehow help one of the 2 witches control the wand enough to summon a cyclone portal.

    • I think he died in the season 4 finale. This is just because the writers said there would be two deaths, one fake (Hook) and one real (Apprentice?).However, they forgot about Doc's fake death so the real one might not have happened.

    • I would hate for him to die with no backstory, like aTamara incident all over again. I think he should be alive in the finale, because it's not like he actually told them about his wand and other stuff.

My main issue is that Emma blasts him to save him and the Darkness leaves. Why should he be dead? The Darkness isn;t said to kill people but to suck out the light. So, that means either Emma and the gang let him die or the Darkness was out of character (lol.)

In a world of modern medicine and the explantions of snuffing out light, him dying would be uncalled for and forced simply because of the plot and having the characters travel via themselves. At least let him be alive and watch over lifeless Rumple for the time being.

    • As for him dying in the Finale, I agree.  However, I could see the scenerio where the combination of the Darkness and Emma's blast to drive it out could have caused a mortal wound. I mean, seriously, he's older than Rumple. I could see him dying in the premiere, and we could still get some of his backstory with Merlin.

Or, he could die in Episode 2, and have the flashback in that episode be his story, which could coincide with somehow choosing his successor.  And the Price could then refer to the price of becomming the Apprentice.

Or he could still be alive, I won't discount any possibilities at this point.

    • Yeah, because the very, powerful Apprentice faced Countless Dark Ones and is essentially immortal shouldn't die so easily. Now, I can get that he could die, but it was really contrived that the Darkness would kill him. If the Darkness kills that quickly then Regina should have been dead before Emma sad good by to any of her loved ones. This is my dispute.

I will go with he hasn't died yet, and even if they say so in show, I'll probably just ignore it because how else would they discover the Apprentice's wand and even know where to go etc.

Also, who's going to look after Rumple? Who's going to look after the hat? The Sorcerer's scroll that they never retrieved? And the host of other magic stuff? Can't just put that in the shop with comatose Rumple and put a protection spell up and then leave....which is what i expect they will do.

    • Not everyone needs centric flashbacks, the Apprentice got plenty of backstory, I'm sure we'll see some of him with Merlin but not in episode 1, Merlin is confirmed not to be in it.

But everyone tendss to get one. The Apprentice has little backstory. That's like saying Rumple minus his centrics was his backstory. That's just being in other people's flashbacks.

But I still hope to see his origin, likely Merlin with a young apprentice after or during fighting the Darkness...I mean we have to see that at least.

He has 5 or 6 episodes of backstory, we just don't know his origin.
