  • So, we recently found out that the Sorcerer is Merlin. In the Disney film, The Sword in the Stone, King Arthur is Merlin's apprentice. So, if the Sorcerer is Merlin, doesn't that make the Apprentice Arthur?

    What are your thoughts?

    • Although I usually disagree with the usage of this statement, in this case: Once =/= Live-action Disney

As far as I'm aware (I'm aware of very little related to this subject but I'm pretty sure) Arthur was not Merlin's apprentice in any other media. I would say the Apprentice is Yen Sid, because that's the owner of the Sorcerer's House in Storybrooke, or (more likely) just a semi-original character vaguely based off of Mickey Mouse.

    • Yeah, the Apprentice seems to be a Yen-Sid/ Mickey mash up, with him refering back to both apprentice and sorcerer, while being a powerful sorcerer, yet the apprentice to an even more powerful sorcerer. Quite convoluted, but makes since.

Arthur had Lancelot which is Snow and Charming's age, roughly. The Apprentice is over a thousand years old.

    • I actually love this theory. I can actually see that. Also, I love how people say this show isn't Disney then use Mickey Mouse as a reference.

    • The Sorcerer's Apprentice is directly based off of Fantasia, so that's an exception. They've done two directly Disney-based plots in a row (Frozen/Fantasia), so I doubt they'll do a third, particularly when it has a non-Disney basis in existance (so they'll use actual Arthurian legend or spinoffs thereof instead of doing Disney's corny ripoff).
