  • Hello all!

I'm sure you've already noticed the change in the global navigation at the top of your screen. We're a test wiki for the update. Beta testing will run for the next week or two and then will be rolled out Wikia-wide.

Please utilize this thread to discuss it! Any and all feedback is encouraged and appreciated, and please detail ALL bugs you encounter so they can be passed along to the powers that be.

    • I'll be honest: I don't like. It is too big, I have the impression someone reduced the size of the wiki, which is not really a pleasant thing. Then, it is white. I don't know if there is or it will have an option in order to change the color of this header, but for now it just... too different from the rest of the wiki. And... Maybe it is just me but I don't like to see the search bar where they put, because I have the reflex to click where it was before x)

Anyways, the most annoying thing for me is too big and too white. If the size could be the same one as before and same for the color, well I think it could be a good thing :)

    • I agree with her Ladyship regarding the bar. it is big, white, and not as intuitive (imo).  the first time I tried to log in after that went in place I was momentarily confused (granted that is a natural state for me, beut I was even confused for being confused.) I figured it out quickly enough, but it is still clunky.

Also, from a general UI pov, it feels forced and unnatural, like it does not belong with the rest of the wiki. the previous header looked and felt more natural.  Now, maybe there will be more options of adjusting the css so that the headers once again match the rest of the site design, but until then, it is big, white, ugly, and annoying. and did I mention clunky.

    • There are three things that I like about this new bar. Firstly, I love that it's fixed. I don't have to continuously scroll to the top of the page in order to check for new notifications. Secondly, this global nav has a search bar feature. Allowing users to search through this wikia or throughout wikia in search of new communities. Lastly, I like the dropdown menu at the top left corner of the navbar. Instead of having various dropdown menus for different themed wikias as the old one (Lifestyle, Entertainment etc). Having all of them placed into one dropdown is perfect.

Two things I hate about this bar is that it's too big! I wish it was the same size as the old global navigation bar and the ability to change the colours of the bar, so it will match the wiki.

    • One, the bar is too big.

Two, the notifications don't come up when you press on the head, you have to click again (maybe I'm just lazy but oh well)

Three, I hate how it didn't fit in with the rest of wiki, and like lady Junky said, it makes the wiki seem smaller.

Four, it looks way out of place.

    • It is big and cluky but I like not scrolling up for the notifications

    • I think that this top of the screen is quite good. It doesnt need fixing

I agree with you. Its position in the middle is something I got quickly used to. But, I have to say, I don't like its white color. Like others said before,  it would be nice if they could give us an opportunity to adjust the colors so that they'll fit different wikia.

Moreover, I'd like to suggest moving the "Start a Wikia" button to the left side of the bar. That way all the Wikia general stuff will be on one side. Maybe it's just me, but I have to be very careful to not start a new wiki, when all I want to do  is, log myself in.

    • Agree with Lady Junky. Don't like this at all. Too big and not functional.

    • Uhm... no sorry. In my opinion it is really too big and kinda annoying. I prefered the old one.

    • What you guys are saying about it being too large and and not blending into our theme, has been echoed across pretty much all the discussions about it.

It is just a beta, so there will be some tweaking involved.

I am going to pass this suggestion on to the Council discussion on this. I've accidentally tapped it a few times lol.

I have some code you can add for yourself to get around this -- I don't click on anything, menus drop down on hover.

    • I don't like it either. It's way too big and the white doesn't contrast well with the background. Also, I don't like how the bar follows as you scroll down the page: I liked it better when it was only at the top of the page and it didn't follow when you scrolled down (if I want to check my notifications or something I can just scroll up in the page, there's no need for the bar to be on the screen all the time, at least in my opinion).

    • I love it a lot! But, like everyone else, it's a bit big. It doesn't have to be that big right?

You can just hover your mouse over it. You don't need to click on the notifications. :)

That's the point, when I hover over it, it doesn't do anything.

Looks like you've got a bug. I'm passing that info on to the powers that be.

    • I hate it.

    • Maybe your using a touch screen thing like a Surface or iPad? :)

        Preparing Editor Spell
    • I don't like this new format. Ever since they launched it, everything on all the wikias I've been to has been loading a lot slower, especially the notifications. Sometimes the notifications won't even load and that's really annoying. Has anyone else had this problem??
