  • The Lost Girl episode and other Season 3 episodes brings up many questions:

    Questions:

    1) Is Mr.Gold's Shadow related/or is the same type of shadows that bring the children to Neverland?

    2) Since Mr.Gold's Shadow was cut out from him with what appears to be the Rumplestiltskin Dagger he possesses, does that mean a magical object (dagger) or magical being (possess ability to do magic) can only remove the shadow from the person?

    a) Like in the novel The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman, the knife can cut shadows/dust particles and carve portals of world. Shadow = dust in the Subtle Knife, being consciousness, knowledge, wisdom.

    3) If Mr. Gold's shadow/soul was cut out, does that mean he will die like Greg, or does a shadow operate like the magical heart: how when Cora, pulls out a heart the physical person lives on but without a spirit/moral restraint/ effects on the moral heart.? I am thinking that when Greg Mendel had his shadow/soul pulled out he fell to the ground/died.

    4) Will Greg Mendel be alive? His soul was pulled out from him by a shadow. But not a death by a heart being crushed like Tamara's.  I thought it was an interesting significance that OUAT displayed these two magical ways of destroying character's life. One dies from a shadow the other dies from the crushed heart. Both shadow and heart are linked to the soul. We know that a crushed heart = not easy to revive like Daniel, Frankenstein, it needs to be replaced with another heart, and the specific persons body. If Greg and Tamara's physical bodies die in Neverland and are not preserved, then the shadow or another person's heart can not restore them to life, respectively. But what about Mr.Gold and Cora, shadow and heart pulled out, but they are still alive. This contrast between Mr.Gold and Cora, versus Greg and Tamara, might be explainable in that Gold and Cora are magical and their physical bodies do not drop to death immediately after the shadow or heart is pulled out.

    5) Which begs the question of where is the soul? Is it in the shadow, heart, or is it in both shadow and heart, or in either the shadow or heart depending on what is pulled out.

    6) Or is the shadow the soul, and the heart is the morals/or mirror of morals; where bad deeds will reflect black marks on the heart. Like Snow and Regina's hearts blackened because of their killing actions.

    7) Is Cora's heart with blacken spots? I only remember Snow holding the candle over a reddish heart. (Can anyone recall?) If Cora's heart was pure red: Cora killed, but she killed without her heart, so does that mean her heart was never tarnished with black spots. Does this mean she preserved her heart/soul from her evil deeds/ died without a blackened heart or soul? Or was her heart blackened with spots after the insertion? If Cora's heart was with black spots: does this mean she is suffering from breaking her morals?

    8) In the episode Quite a Common Fairy, Regina still showed or was strong enough to show concern for her son Henry to Tinkerbell even when her heart was pulled out. Does this mean that without a heart you can still voice your love for another, or is it with a heart that you can show/feel complete love like how Cora showed Regina before she die?

    9) What if Regina has blacken heart and shows love for Henry, is it complete love felt by both Regina and Henry or is the blackness impeding it?

    10) If Aurora had killed while her heart was controlled by Cora would she have a black heart or is the heart just being controlled, and without the heart being in Aurora thus, cannot be blackend. In modern language would Aurora be responsible for the crime. Versus if Cora without her heart would mean would Cora would not be responsible for her crime if the heart = the brain in modern terms?

    11) Is the shadow = soul or spirit? heart = soul or morals or brain/mentally sane?

    12) Aurora had restored Philip but we don't know how, except Cora said Philip's soul is just in another realm. Recall, Philip had his shadow/soul pulled out by a wraith.

    13) Shadow can pull shadow/soul, Wraith can pull shadow/soul b) Like in the novel Harry Potter by J.K.Rowling , the dementors draws out the soul.

    14) Cross novel theories common themes: Is this where OUAT is headed?

    c) Wraith [OUAT] = Spectres [The Subtle Knife] = Dementors [Harry Potter]

Shadows [OUAT] = Shadows/Dust [The Subtle Knife]= Life/Warmth [Harry Potter] Emma

Swan [OUAT] = Lyra [The Subtle Knife] = Harry Potter [Harry Potter] = Orphans/Saviour

    • doesn't Regina still have her heart? I think the only reason Cora's heart isn't black is because she removed it before she starting doing all the bad things she did.

    • Greg is confirmed to be dead. I think that since Rumple cut his slowly he was fine, but the force of ripping it quickly killed Greg. Shame he will miss Star Wars VII :)

Yes, Regina still has her heart; Tinkerbell gave back Regina her heart. My comment was referring to the few minutes that Tinkerbell held her heart while Regina talked to Tink. Regina was able to express her love for Henry even without her heart, in those few minutes. Which just reminds me Cora probably did the same without a heart while she looked for Regina in Storybrooke. So there goes my theory that one can express love verbally without a heart.

As for Cora's heart being not black, I am glad you are confirming that you saw a red heart for Cora too like what I saw when Snow first found it. So it looks like the heart is an absorber of black morals if it was inside the person doing bad stuff.

I was hoping Greg will be back because I wanted to see what OUAT could spin with a geneticist, I mean after all OUAT dabbled with the sciencefiction of Frankenstein, I am curious what OUAT wants from a real life historical founder of genes, Gregory Mendel.

I think that while Regina carved her own heart out, she still retained the knowledge of loving Henry. Maybe she didn't feel it right there and then, but she knew she does with her heart in. Most likely she did even remember* what it was like to love him, so she could talk so vividly about that to Tinkerbell.

      • I have always assumed that was Regina's punishment to the Huntsman, rendering him unable to feel while he could remember what it was like to feel before his heart was ripped out, which would add to the torment. Also, in Cora's case, I think she didn't ever realised she truly loved Regina up until when it was too late because she didn't have her heart since long before she was even born.
