  • Does anyone know what the original names of the seven fairies are in the Sleeping Beauty fairytale? I know in the Disney version they are called Flora, Fauna and Merriweather which I think are all copyrighted now but I was just wondering if Dinsey names Fauna and Merriweather after two of the original seven (Flora was named after Walt Dinsey`s mother),

    • I don't know if they were named in the original tale. I know that in the ballet there was one named the Lilac Fairy.

    • I don't know about Charles Perraults' original version, but in the version published by the Grimm Brothers in 1812, they are just called "wise women" ("weise Frauen") and each is referred to by a number, but not a name.

    • The fairy godmothers are usually nameless, in many retellings of Sleeping Beauty.

While Flora was named after Walt Disney's mother, it also refers to the character's powers. Flora, was the fairy of nature. Fauna, was the fairy of animals. Merryweather, was the fairy of weather.... hence, why she was a little spitfire.
