  • I watched the movie Mulan last night, and I couldn't help but notice that Shan Yu (the villain with the creepy eyes) sword looked very similar to Rumplestiltskin's dagger. So maybe since they introduced Mulan into the show, perhaps Shan Yu was the original Dark One?

This is just a theory, I don't actually expect this to happen, so don't criticize me.

Wow, that's actually really cool and definitely possible! I mean, if the dagger and Excalibur are the same, why not add Shan Yu's sword? A lot of fairy tales have magic/powerful swords. It could be like how Regina's made the villain for a lot of the fairy tales in OUAT (Evil Queen in Snow White, Sea-witch in Little Mermaid, takes place of evil step-mother in Hansel and Gretel, etc.). It would bind a lot of the storylines together and eliminate the need for every single story-line to revolve around a different magic/special sword.

    • Both Shan-Yu's sword and Rumple's Dagger are based off of Kris Daggers, spiritual and wavy Indonesian daggers originating from East Asia.

It's merely a coincidence, and although the original version of the Mulan ballad has her fighting in a war with the Huns, all of their leaders were named Shanyu, it was a title, not a name. Shan-Yu the Disney character is just that.

    • It was a great theory even though OUAT sort of just ruined it spout it was a really cool observation!! :)
