Rum is a beverage featured on ABC's Once Upon a Time. It first appears in the sixth episode of the second season.
Rum is commonly associated with pirates, but it is also a reference to the beverage of the same name mentioned in the Disney film Peter Pan.
History
Trivia
On-Screen Notes
- When Neal talks to Hook in Granny's Diner after they return from Neverland, Neal says, "I don't think they serve rum at Granny's." However, rum has been added to the menu by the time Hook proposes to Emma. ("The New Neverland," "Ill-Boding Patterns")
- The bottle that Hook and Emma are drinking from in New York City contains Jamaican Dark Rum from "Santa Christ[obscured]."[2] ("New York City Serenade")
- The bottle that Emma and Hook share in the tavern in the Enchanted Forest contains "Fine Old Rum" from "Langtree & Sons."[3] ("Snow Drifts")
- The bottle of rum that Hook is drinking from in Granny's Diner contains Hector's distilled and hand blended River Rum from Oracabessa, Jamaica.[4] ("Ill-Boding Patterns")
- Rum is being served at Roni's; a bottle can be seen sitting behind the counter when Weaver and Rogers come into the bar to talk to Margot.[1] ("Is This Henry Mills?")
Disney
- Rum is commonly associated with pirates, but it is also a reference to Disney's Peter Pan, where the titular character is impersonating Captain Hook and says to Mr. Smee, "When you return to the ship, tell the whole crew to help themselves to me best rum" (no rum is mentioned in the original story by J. M. Barrie). ("Tallahassee" et al.)
Fairytales and Folklore
- In order to reveal the golden flower, Wish Hook sings the song "Dead Man's Chest" from Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island, which includes the lyric "Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum." ("Eloise Gardener")
Popular Culture
- When Emma kisses Hook before he proposes to her, she finds that he tastes like Captain Morgan, a brand of rum. ("Ill-Boding Patterns")
