King David, formerly known as Prince Charming, is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. He débuts, with his only appearance, in the tenth episode of the sixth season. He is portrayed by starring cast member Josh Dallas, and is the Wish Realm version of Prince Charming.
History
In this realm created by the Evil Queen's wish for Emma to have never been the Savior, Prince Charming and Snow White successfully defeat the Evil Queen by taking away her magic, thus preventing her from ever casting the Dark Curse, before they later become King David and Queen Snow. On Emma's birthday, David attends the celebration and watches as she blows out her cake candle. Later, Emma tells her parents about a dream she had where she was in a land called Storybrooke battling the Evil Queen. Although David assures her that it was just a dream, Emma is doubtful and reveals that she woke up to find a sword underneath her bed. They are interrupted when Sir Henry walks in, apologizing for being late. After discussing his upcoming knighting ceremony, the family reminisces over Henry's deceased father for a moment before continuing with the birthday festivities. ("Wish You Were Here," "Eloise Gardener")
Later, David and Snow find the Evil Queen talking to Emma in the forest. When Snow's arrow narrowly misses her, the Queen is alerted to their presence. The couple question how she was able to return when they banished her for good with help from the fairies. David shows the Queen his sword and reminds her that it was the sword that banished her, but before he can take her down, she teleports away. Despite the threat of the Queen's return, David and Snow attend Henry's knighting ceremony, assuring Emma that they can defeat the Queen once more. Before the ceremony can be completed, the Queen barges in and freezes the royal couple in place, threatening them and daring Emma to try and stop her. When Emma begs for mercy, the Queen teleports herself, David, and Snow away. ("Wish You Were Here")
Imprisoned in the Queen's castle, David and Snow keep a strong front by insisting that she will not succeed. The Queen, actually Regina from the real world, responds that her only goal is to get Emma to accept herself as a hero. Emma soon arrives, but instead of fighting the Queen, she offers the key to the kingdom in return for her parents' freedom. The Queen refuses the key and insists that Emma must learn to fight her, and in order to give her a reason, she rips out Snow and David's hearts. Emma falls to her knees and begs her to stop, however, the Queen crushes them, killing the king and queen, in an attempt to push Emma to remember her real self. ("Wish You Were Here")
