You think this wolf man is me?

—Peter to Red src

Peter is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. He débuts, with his only appearance, in the fifteenth episode of the first season. He is portrayed by guest star Jesse Hutch, and does not have a Storybrooke counterpart.

Peter is based on the character with the same name from the composition Peter and the Wolf.

History

Before First Curse

Peter is the son of a blacksmith, and grows up in the same village as Red. The two are close childhood friends, and their friendship eventually blossoms into romance. Both Red and Peter have plans to one day leave the village and see the world together.

In their village, every full moon, a mysterious wolf attacks, slaughtering livestock and the unwary. Peter and Red long to run away together, but they are unsafe due to the wolf's dangerous killings and also because Red's Granny, Widow Lucas, does not let her out of the house very often. While with Snow White, Red finds wolf tracks that slowly become human footsteps leading back to her home. Recalling that Peter visited her last night, she comes to the horrific conclusion the wolf must be him. That night, Red meets Peter out in the forest and tells him her theory. To be safe, he allows her to chain him to a tree so he will not be able to harm anyone else. He begs Red to go home for safety, but she refuses and wants to stay with him. Back in the village, Snow White masquerades as a sleeping Red by borrowing Red's cloak, but is caught by Widow Lucas. She questions Snow White of where Red is, and after admitting Red is with Peter, Widow Lucas shows alarm and concern for his safety.

Under the full moon, it is not Peter who transforms, but Red. Peter tries to make wolf Red recognize who he is, but she has no trace of her former self. She kills him, and devours most of his carcass. Both Snow White and Granny arrive shortly after, but are too late to save Peter. Instead, all Widow Lucas can do is shoot wolf Red with a silver arrow to immoblize her temporarily. Then, Snow White throws a cloak over the unconscious wolf Red to bring her back to human form. Red awakens confused, but is distraught with sorrow when she sees what she as the wolf did to Peter. With the hunting party approaching to capture the wolf, Red is forced to flee with Snow White. ("Red-Handed")

Trivia

  • The name "Peter" is of Greek origin derived from "Petros" that means "stone".[1]
  • Peter references the story of the "Three Little Pigs", when he jokingly says he will blow Red's house in. The wolf in "Three Little Pigs" makes the same threat. ("Red-Handed")
