History

After Third Curse

In the hopes that his son Mr. Gold will procure a living heart for him so he can escape the Underworld, Peter Pan offers Mr. Gold a replica of Pandora's Box to keep Belle safe in. Mr. Gold holds up his end of the bargain, but Pan realizes something is wrong with the heart after it is placed in his chest. Only then, Mr. Gold reveals it's a wineskin he had filled with water from Acheron and glamoured as a heart. After Pan dies from the water's effects, Mr. Gold absorbs Belle into the box and takes it with him as he returns home through a portal.

With Moe refusing to help uncurse Belle, Mr. Gold takes drastic measures to save her by absorbing Storybrooke's magic into a piece of the Olympian Crystal. Henry steals the crystal and flees to New York City to destroy it, while Mr. Gold takes the box with him in his quest to retrieve the crystal. After retrieving the crystal from Henry, Mr. Gold checks into a room at the Hotel d'Or, where he places the box on a bed, intending to wake Belle with the crystal's accumulated magic. Before he can, a portal created by Hyde opens and absorbs the box into the Land of Untold Stories. Hyde gains the box, and he decides to use Belle as leverage against Mr. Gold. Later on, Mr. Gold travels through a portal in the Land Without Magic to the other realm, where he confronts Hyde about his thievery. Hyde eventually returns the box to Mr. Gold after Mr. Gold agrees to let him have Storybrooke for himself in exchange for information about the Temple of Morpheus where Belle can be awakened from her slumber. ("Last Rites," "Only You," "An Untold Story")

Following Hyde's instructions, Mr. Gold takes the box to the Temple of Morpheus and releases Belle's body from within it while she is still asleep. It is unknown what happens to the box after this. ("The Savior")
