"One Little Tear" is the ninth episode of Season Seven of ABC's Once Upon a Time. It was written by Christopher Hollier & Adam Karp, and directed by Steve Pearlman. It is the one hundred and forty-second episode of the series overall, and premiered on December 8, 2017.
Synopsis
Victoria strikes a deal with Weaver in an attempt to free herself from jail and wake Anastasia, but the cost of saving one life could mean the loss of another. In a flashback, we learn Lady Tremaine's surprising connection to another classic fairytale when Mother Gothel offers to help her family. Meanwhile, Jacinda and Nick share an exchange that could alter her future with Henry.[2]

- A couple of mistakes were made on the press release:
- Matty Finochio, who plays Marcus Tremaine, also played Tweedledee in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.
- Anna Cathcart, who plays Tween Drizella in this episode, played the role of Drizella's daughter, Dizzy Tremaine, in Descendants 2.
Event Chronology
- The Seattle events take place after "Pretty in Blue" and before "The Eighth Witch". (For more details, see the Land Without Magic timeline)
- The New Enchanted Forest flashbacks take place over the course of at least seven years, before "Eloise Gardener".
- The first flashback scene takes place while Anastasia and Drizella are still young girls. The rest of the flashback scenes take place six years later, until Drizella's birthday party. The last flashback scene, at the frozen lake, takes place after the opening flashback with Anastasia and young Drizella in "Sisterhood", and at least one year after Cecelia left for New Wonderland.[6]

Fairytales and Folklore
- This episode is a rendition of the "Rapunzel" fairytale with Rapunzel, Dame Gothel and Rapunzel's children. It is also a rendition of the "Cinderella" fairytale as Rapunzel is also the wicked stepmother from the fairytale, with Cinderella, the evil stepsisters and Cinderella's mother and father.
- Lucy's ballet studio is called the Red Shoe Ballet,[7] a reference to "The Red Shoes", a fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen, about a girl forced to dance continually in her red shoes.
- Victoria Belfrey uses a tear to heal someone, just like her counterpart, Rapunzel, does in fairytale.
Lost
- Rogers' list of locations acquired by Belfrey Developments, contains the address 23 King Street,[8] a reference to Lost number 23.
Popular Culture
- When Ivy tells Victoria that "Orange looks better on the women on that Netflix show", she is making a reference to the comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black.
- Alison Fernandez, who portrays Lucy, also plays Eva Diaz in Orange Is the New Black.
- Ivy mentions that her mother has "no money, no lawyer, no Chanel". Chanel is a famous French high fashion house.
- Weaver shows Victoria a set of handcuffs and says that they're not exactly Tiffany's, a reference to the American luxury jewelry retailer.
- Hook responds to Victoria's explanation of how she utilized her own determination to get what she wants in life by saying he "didn't ask for a TED talk." A TED talk is a type of conference where people share stories on-stage with the purpose of engaging their audience in a topic or idea.
- Sabine describes Weaver's dagger as "something out of a Tim Burton movie", a reference to the American filmmaker known for his dark, gothic, eccentric and quirky horror and fantasy films. Among Burton's films is the 2010 adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Props Notes
- The lantern Rapunzel is using while searching for food[9] is the same prop used by Emma and her group while on Neverland in several episodes of Season Three.[10][11]
- The mug that Sabine drinks hot coffee from in the morning[12] is a Perasima Mug in lilac, from Anthropologie.[13]
- Henry, Lucy and Jacinda drink hot cocoa with cinnamon from the same kind of mugs when Henry visits in "A Taste of the Heights".[14]
- When Henry is reunited with Lucy and Jacinda in "Chosen", Lucy, Jacinda and Sabine are all drinking hot cocoa from the mugs (Sabine is holding one of the mugs as she talks about putting another cup of cocoa on the stove,[15] and if you look in the background, you can see three mugs on the table[16]).
- The photographs in the files at the police station are all taken from the filming of previous episodes:
- Victoria Belfrey[17] and Ivy's[18] photos are both from the filming of "Hyperion Heights",[19] which can easily be seen from their outfits.
- The Perp's photos[20] are modified versions of the photos from his mughshot pedigree from "Wake Up Call".[21]
- Rogers' photo[22] is from the filming of the scene with Henry and Rogers at the harbor in "Eloise Gardener",[23] as seen from the similar background colors.
- Sabine's photo[24] is taken from a deleted scene from "The Garden of Forking Paths", where Rogers and Sabine are on a bench.[25] Notice the purse strap over her left shoulder and her yellow sweater.
- The photographs of Victoria,[17] the Perp,[20] Rogers[22] and Sabine[24] also appear on Henry's boards in "Flower Child"[26] and "Is This Henry Mills?"
- The address 23 King Street, Seattle, WA, appears on Rogers' list of locations acquired by Belfrey Developments.[8] King Street also appears on a photograph of Anastasia in "Sisterhood",[27] while 23 King Street appears on Jacinda's mobile phone in "Breadcrumbs", where it is revealed to be the address of Henry's apartment.[28]
- The mushroom prop used for the toadstool that Rapunzel uses to poison Cecelia with is the same prop that was used for the Crimson Crown in the Season Five episodes "Siege Perilous" and "The Bear and the Bow".[29]

- Victoria is wearing[37] a Club Monaco Trench Coat.[38] She wears the trench coat again in the Season Seven episodes "The Eighth Witch"[39] and "Secret Garden".[40]

Filming Locations
- The scenes in Gothel's garden were filmed in Burnaby's Central Park.[56]
- The outdoor scenes at the Tremaine Manor were filmed on Foxglove Farm,[57] a 120-acre organic farm on Salt Spring Island in British Columbia.
- Ironically, this location also doubles as the home of the first iteration of Lady Tremaine and her family in the Season One episode "The Price of Gold"[58] and the Season Six episode "The Other Shoe".[59]
- The same building doubles as the exterior of the home of Edwin in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.[60] ("Down the Rabbit Hole," "Who's Alice")
- The same farm doubles as the Storybrooke Pumpkin Farm for the episode "The Other Shoe". The scenes at the pumpkin farm were shot at the back of the building that doubles as the Tremaine Manor.[61]
- The house also doubles as he home of Isla, Seraphina and their house sisters in the Season Seven episode "Flower Child".[62] A shed located on the farm was also used for the scene where Isla pours a bucket of mud onto Gothel.[63]

- Cabo Drilling Corp in New Westminster doubles as the exterior of the Seattle mausoleum.[77]
- Lorne Mews, a street connecting Clarkson and Columbia Street in New Westminster[78] doubles as the alleyway where Victoria shows Lucy the storybook[79] and where Rogers confronts Weaver.[80]
- Sea to Sky Law at 26 Lorne Mews in New Westminster doubles as the Red Shoe Ballet.[81]
- Lorne Mews also doubles as the exterior of the Calument Co. Sheriff's Department in the Supernatural episode "Hook Man",[82] an alleyway in Starling City in the Arrow episode "Home Invasion"[83] and an alleyway in the Timeless episode "Karma Chameleon".[84]
- The scene at the frozen lake was filmed on a blue-screen studio set. While the snow and some of the trees were real, the ice and the background was added digitally in post-production.[85]
- The dress shop Lucy passes on her way home was filmed at The Bridal Gallery in New Westminster (note the identical decals in the windows).[86]
