Naveen William Sidney Andrews was born on January 17, 1969[1] in Balham of London, England to Indian immigrants Nirmala, a psychologist, and Stanley Andrews, a businessman,[2] who were both originally from Kerala, India.[3] He has one brother. Naveen was raised in Wandsworth with an upbringing he describes as "very repressive". He is a former student at the Emanuel School, and later dropped out to pursue acting training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His first major role was in Hanif Kureishi's London Kills Me in 1991,[3] and a part in The English Patient as Sikh Kip was followed by roles in the 1993 BBC mini-series The Buddha of Suburbia and Kama Sutra: A Tale Of Love.[2] Other selected acting credits include the 1998 Disney family film Mighty Joe Young, the 2004 Bollywood-themed Bride and Prejudice as well as the popular 2004 ABC series Lost.

At eighteen, he became romantically involved with his former mathematics teacher, thirty-year-old Geraldine Feakins. The relationship lasted eight years and they have one son named Jaisal.[3] In 1999, Naveen met actress Barbara Hershey on the set of the indie film Drowning on Dry Land. They lived together in Los Angeles[4] and briefly separated in 2005; during which he fathered another son, Naveen Joshua, with Czech-French actress Elena Eustache.[5] He and Barbara ended their relationship in 2009.[6]
