Sir Mordred is a character featured in the extended universe of ABC's Once Upon a Time. He débuts, with his only appearance, in a canon[1] bonus feature of the fifth season, and is portrayed by James Marsters.
Mordred is based on the character of the same name from the Arthurian legend.
History
In Camelot, Mordred is one of King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table. At some point, Mordred betrays Arthur and takes his throne for a short time. In return, Arthur kills him, sending him to the Underworld, where he becomes a bartender. ("Tales From The Underworld: A Knight With Cruella")
Fifty years after King Arthur takes control of the Underworld from Cruella De Vil, Cruella shows up at Mordred's bar to celebrate Arthur's anniversary as ruler. He attempts to kick her out at some point, but she passes out. The next morning she awakens unaware of what happened. The two talk for a bit, with Mordred explaining who he is and how he died. When Cruella expresses dissatisfaction with her apparent role of lush at the local bar now that Arthur has taken over, Mordred suggests that they work together to find redemption and eventually move on to Mount Olympus, only for Cruella to shoot him down. He notes that her darkness is what makes minor villains such as himself seem good, which Cruella misconstrues to mean that she is the true hero, and requests champagne to celebrate. As Mordred heads off to get it, she questions why she was at the bar to begin with, and he reminds her how long it has been since Arthur took over. When she offers a toast, he leaves. Trivia
Set Dressing
- A medieval helmet is sitting on a table in Mordred's bar,[2] while a decorative sword hanger is hanging on the wall; a reference to his previous life as a member of the Knights of the Round Table. ("Tales From The Underworld: A Knight With Cruella")
