For the second iteration, see King (Hyperion Heights). |
The King, currently known as Mitchell Herman, is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. He débuts, with his only appearance, in the fourth episode of the first season and is portrayed by guest star Ted Whittall.
The King is based on a character of the same name from the fairytale "Cinderella," and the Disney film Cinderella.
History
During a royal ball, the King's son, Prince Thomas, falls in love with and later proposes to his bride-to-be, Cinderella. On the day of the wedding, the King and the other royal guests applaud as Cinderella and Thomas walk down the staircase into the ballroom for the celebration. As music begins playing, everyone falls in line with their dance partners for a waltz. While dancing with his new daughter-in-law, the King encourages her and Thomas to expand their family quite soon so he can have a grandchild, which amuses Cinderella. When it comes time to switch dancer partners, he moves on while Prince Charming approaches Cinderella to resume the waltz. ("The Price of Gold")
Mitchell does not approve of his son's relationship with Ashley. After learning Ashley is pregnant, Mitchell forbids Sean from having anything to do with her. He arranges for Mr. Gold to take Ashley's baby once she gives birth. Sheriff Swan ends up on the Hermans' home doorstep while on the prowl for a missing Ashley's whereabouts. Mitchell calmly interrupts her discussion with Sean and redirects his son to go inside while he deals with the matter.
Seeing that Sheriff Swan is unaware of Ashley' previous agreeance to a specific deal, he tells her about the deal the girl made to give up her baby to Mr. Gold at the end of her pregnancy term. However, this is thwarted when Sheriff Swan agrees to owe Mr. Gold a favor in replacement of him taking Ashley's baby. ("The Price of Gold")
