Michael Coleman is the Canadian actor who portrays Happy on ABC's Once Upon a Time.
Biography
Michael Robert Coleman was born on December 6, 1973 in Burnaby, British Columbia.[1] He has three brothers.[2] Michael married Michelle Louise Coleman on October 4, 2003[1] and they have one daughter, Belle.[3]
During high school, he began doing stand up comedy. Due to being underage, Michael often snuck into and out of nightclubs through the back door. He worked with various comedic legends such as Robin Williams. After performing a night show, Michael was approached by actor Michael Sunczyk and introduced to the world of television and film acting.[2][4]
Some of Michael's on camera credits include Supernatural, Eureka, Psych, Blood Ties, Stargate: SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, and numerous movies of the week and feature films. He has voiced over a hundred commercial spots for radio and television and voiced numerous characters in dozens of animated series including; X-Men: Evolution, Hello Kitty, Inuyasha, Dragonball Z, Gundam Seed: Destiny, Hamtaro, Hellsing, Transformers, Power Puff Girls, and Megaman.[1]
He was the artistic director of the Vancouver Acting School and also serves as an acting coach instructor alongside Once Upon a Time colleagues Geoff Gustafson and Catherine Lough Haggquist.[5] Aside from acting, Michael is also a screenwriter.[2]
In February 2018, Coleman stepped down from his position as artistic director and chief academic officer of SchoolCreative: Institute for the Arts, the arts institute that he co-owned after sexual harassment allegations surfaced. The school and its affiliated agency, GO Studios, have confirmed that Coleman no longer has any relationship with them. After news of the allegations emerged, 14 instructors at the school resigned. Some of those instructors said that they planned to return now that Coleman has resigned. The latter denied the allegations, and said that he stepped down because of shareholder dispute.[6] Following these allegations, Coleman revealed that he was not asked to return for the seventh and final season of Once Upon a Time, thus making his firing from the series.[7]
