Hey Kyle, my name is Marcus. I'm the Fandom Wiki Manager for the Once Upon a Time Wiki. Our job is to help make your experience on Fandom amazing. If you have any questions with coding/templates, designs, etc, don't hesitate to drop us a message. We're also open to mediate any disputes that may occur on this community. If you have any questions about my role, ask away!
Good evening; or, considering where you're at, good morning!
Ever since you joined us, and especially the last few months, you have done a marvelous job editing, looking after the articles, and adding new content. In recognition of your great work, I and the other admins would like to offer you the role of administrator at this wiki.
It is with much delight we offer you the position and we hope you accept :-)
Hey, so you deleted User:DatNuttyKid/Mother and marked that it was a broken redirect, but it wasn't? It redirected to User:DatNuttyKid/Gaia. I had left it up so that I wouldn't have to go back and update all of the pages that used the old link. Would it be possible for you to restore it?
That is a question I have been asking myself since I found Succubus Studios. When I emailed them asking for their permission to use their costume photos on the Wikia, they also helped me figure out who wore what. They mentioned the cape was made around July 2013 and it would have been used in the first two episodes that premiered later in the year, which would be Season Three. I was never able to figure out who wore it, but my bet always was Robin Hood. It was either him or one of the Lost Boys. I just couldn't find any images from the first two episodes that proved Robin Hood wore it.
Maybe you can figure out who and what episode it is from the information I was given, because I never could. xD
In my opinion, I think the cape in the image is the same one Robin Hood is wearing in "The Heart of the Truest Believer" but the one he does wear in the episode, doesn't have the leather bit up-top, so I was never entirely sure. xD
Since I know you have uploaded images from Eduardo Castro's website before--I was just checking if it is fine If I upload some more that have been uploaded on there? (For example this one) I am assuming it falls under fair use but I wasn't sure if you had emailed them/contacted them in the past and have permission. xD
Yeah, they should fall under fair use, so go ahead :-) Before his website was published, I contacted him on Facebook to ask for his permission to use his concept art, but he never replied; I guess he's a very busy man xd
Oh, oh, oh! While I have you here--would these images be alright to upload as well? The company made armour for Lancelot and Phillip and they also haven't updated in six years, so I wasn't sure if sending them a message would be helpful. >.<
(They also have a little titbit of trivia about Lancelot's armour. The design on the chest plate has a sea monster/leviathan on it. Which I never noticed). xD
I have moved the first image. But what image is the next one a duplicate of? If you mean File:710TheCurseIsComing.png--her mouth is different in both images, so it would not count as a duplicate. xD
Well it should be renamed, right? Because it has a close name?
Here's a late birthday present/early Christmas gift: Me and my fellow admins appreciate the work you do for the wiki and we would like to offer you the position of content moderator. This means that you will be able to:
Merry Christmas to you too, Kyle! As for colors, it is completely up to you. You can pick another one, if you want to :-)
EDIT: Wait. Since content moderators have more powers than image moderators, that's what you'll be listed as in the staff list (although you will still be part of the image team, of course). So it might be better to pick a color a different color than Lola's. But again: You decide.
The auction that you are using as a source for trivia (I plan to add some as well) contains a lot of good pictures of costumes and props (I'm not talking about the catalog, but the pages for the original items; but I'm sure you already know about this :-) ). We should ask if we can use their photos on our website (having prop galleries would be great); however, I think I'm going to wait until after the auction is done; they might be less "possessive" of photos of items that have already been sold, if you know what I mean :-)
I actually did not know about the pages for the original items and I am just noticing it now. (If I knew before, I would be using that was a reference since the catalog is a pain to reference properly >.<). But asking if we are able to use their images is an excellent idea. I was also going to bring up taking a screen shot of the auction pages as they mention information and I'm pretty sure after the auction has ended, the pages won't exist anymore and there would be a bunch of information on the Wikia linking to dead pages. xD
Actually, I think that there is a good chance that they will keep the pages, since they have plenty of pages for other items which were sold in the past. But just in case they delete them, I'm uploading back-up copies of the pages on the Internet Wayback Machine, preserving them forever :-) It's going to take at least a few days, though; there are about 1300 items/sets of items (!). So far, I've done about 60. Fortunately, making copies of a web page is relatively quick.
I am hoping. I would have added more trivia to pages before but I did not want to do a bunch, only to find out in about a month--all the references I had used would no longer work. I had only skimmed through some of the pages last night and I'm really excited to add the notes to pages, as there were some costume information, even I did not know about--and I'm usually pretty good with those. xD
It was not as hard as I thought it would be! I had figured the house number was the same in real life, so I just googled the number, "house" and added the locations I know Once Upon a Time has filmed at (Vancouver, New Westminster, Fort Langley/Langley, etc). There are some locations they have been stumping me a lot lately. I have spent so much time trying to find the house used for the Feinberg Mansion, but I keep coming up short. I can't even find a filming notice for the episode to at least narrow down the area. >.<
I figured you made a mistake with the number because 1300 was a looot. xD Ah! Also, thank you for adding the costume note to Regina and Fiona's page. I only got as far as Victoria's page until I decided to call it a night. :-)
On the subject of the auction images, I was about to add information on the clothes Eloise wore during 7.07/7.08. But now I am confused. xD I know you moved a piece of trivia under costume notes from "Pretty in Blue" to "Eloise Gardener" (The one about her wearing a Maje dress). But I don't know if something got messed up, because although the promo photos have her in the dress for "Eloise Gardener", in the actual episode, she is in her rags the entire episode (and the scene the photos show, is not in the episode). So should the information be added back to "Pretty in Blue", since the supposed scene showed in the images didn't make it to the episode?
Hopefully, this makes senses, and I'm not rambling. :-)
Ah, wait; now I see what the problem is; the whole confusion stems from the fact that her promo pics for the double episode were added to the gallery for "Eloise Gardener" instead of "Pretty in Blue". Yeah, feel free to add the info back to "Pretty in Blue" xd I'll take care of the promo pics.
I know some sites have those particular images for "Eloise Gardener", even though the scene does not happen until "Pretty in Blue", so I'm not sure if it is an error from someone at ABC, which made all other sites have them under 7.07 (Even Disney Press has the scene and the end coffin one with Ivy as "Eloise Gardener", so I think there was just a big mix-up from the get-go). xD
Ooh, ooh! While I have you here, I have something to run by you (Although, it may have to be a community decision if it makes ...sense). I have been wondering and think it may be a good idea to be adding images like these (File:IGvfxsup-512-2.png -- and other Instagram/Twitter/Facebook images) to the cast pages as well? For example, that one would go into Barbara Hershey/Gallery, since--at least in my opinion, they could fall under the same category as promotional/behind the scenes photos? We'd have to make another header, maybe Instagram/Facebook/Etc, etc Photos. I have just been thinking about it a lot, but I figured I'd get a second opinion from the Queen of Images. xD
Hmm... It's just that most of the social media screenshots are not photographs downloaded on a computer, but screenshots of social media posts, and these are of much lower quality than the photographs in the post and the posts themselves (just click on the source for the post, like the Instagram post used for the post with Cora, and compare it to the screenshot; the quality of the screenshot is significantly lower). So such a gallery wouldn't do the actors justice. Of course, with some posts, the accompanying photograph was also uploaded to the wiki, separately from the screenshot, but including only those would probably look weird.
Of course, one option could be to upload the photographs for every post separately, in addition to the post, but then we'd have to limit the gallery to photos from posts which contain information valuable to the wiki, which doesn't feel fair... But including photos from other sorts of social media posts doesn't feel right either; after all, we are not an image hosting site or an image database; our goal isn't to collect every OUAT image in existence and using every image we find for no reason other than completion; plus, that might get us in trouble with the owners of the images (although I'm no expert).
You see what I mean? I like the idea, but I don't think it would work.
I understand what you mean!! I get that it may end up looking a little weird so I understand your wariness towards it. It was just an idea I had in the back of my mind, and I figured I'd bring it up for a second opinion. But after reading your thoughts about it, I agree. :-)
Oh oh oh! Also, I've been renaming a lot of images lately, and double checking file names and I was wondering if I should be changing PNG to png (I assume it is the same file type, just capitalized). I figured I would bring it up, as I know about 98% of images on here are png and I wasn't sure if I should change the ones that are PNG to png, so they resemble the rest or is it a case of it not mattering? :-)
I think it's a case of not mattering, as you say. PNG and png are the same format. It is not against the rules to change the PNG pics to png, but it has little practical value for the wiki, so if I were you, I would leave them as they are.
I figured as much. I thought I would check in with you first, just in case you had another opinion. I have been removing "1" from images on here though, as to my knowledge--and we only number things as "1" when it comes to promotional/costume/behind the scene photos and not screen-captures from the show. Correct me if I am wrong though. xD
Ah, okay! Great. :-) On the subject of the 1's, are you able to rename episode image for The Shepherd? It has a 1 in there, but the image is used on a locked template and I know if I rename it, it won't change for the template. xD
I think (Well, in my opinion), there might be a coding issue with the Centric listing template. If you go to the Evil Queen's page and/or the Huntsman, whose centric(s) include novels/comics, a speech-mark is automatically added to anything at the end of the list (Which is fine with episodes, but not so much novel/comics when they're meant to be just italicised) and there's no way to remove it? xD
Meh... I received an answer from iCollector today. They are only willing to let us use their pics if we pay for them and the price is 500 dollars per image. Wow... That is not what I expected :-O
I don't think we can we upload the lot of them under the fair use doctrine either, since that involves using limited amounts rather than large portions, and we're talking about 533 items/sets of items and some of them have more than one photo, so it's even more than that.
I might upload a few images for the concept art and storyboard galleries, since that can be considered fair use, but I think we can kiss the dream about prop galleries goodbye. Oh well. At least we tried.
$500...per image? I don't think I have a response to that. I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. I guess adding information into Trivia and uploading the concept art/storyboard may have to suffice, unfortunately. >.<
