Template:FTLCharacter Marian is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. She débuts in the nineteenth episode of the second season. She is portrayed by co-star Christie Laing.

Maid Marian is based on the character with the same name from the ballad "Robin Hood".

History

Before First Curse

Marian falls in love with a thief named Robin Hood and later runs away with him. This angers the Sheriff of Nottingham, who harbors feelings for Marian and blames Robin Hood for stealing her away. While she is heavily pregnant and very ill, Robin Hood risks his life by breaking into the castle of the Dark One, Rumplestiltskin, to steal a healing wand. He escapes after the castle maid, Belle, takes pity on him. With the wand in his possession, Robin Hood successfully restores Marian to full health. Happily, the lovers regroup as a stray arrow aimed by Rumplestiltskin nearly hits them; forcing the two to flee on horseback. ("Lacey")

After giving birth to a son, Roland, Marian passes away under circumstances that Robin Hood blames on his own mishap of "inadvertently putting her in harm's way during the job". ("Quite a Common Fairy," "Witch Hunt")

After Second Curse
When Mr. Gold kills Zelena, her time travelling spell activates; causing Emma and Hook are sucked into the past. After a chain of events involving Emma trying to recreate the very first meeting between Snow White and Prince Charming, she is thrown into the Queen's dungeon where she meets Marian, who is also imprisoned and sentenced to death in the morning. Marian fears she will never see her family again, so Emma creates a plan to save both of them. They succeed in leaving and regrouping with Hook and Prince Charming only to witness Snow White's faux execution. Later, Hook expresses concerns to Emma about saving Marian since she was supposed to die, and her existence may alter other people's lives. To solve the issue, Emma intends to haul Marian with them to the future. When Marian learns of this, she is suspicious and resistant until being knocked out by Emma. Eventually, Marian is brought along to the present and takes refuge in the diner, but becomes frightened upon seeing Regina, who she still recalls as the Queen. With Emma's help, she is reintroduced to a kinder Regina. Suddenly, Robin Hood spots Marian, and she happily reunites with both him and their son, Roland. ("Snow Drifts," "There's No Place Like Home")
