Before Third Curse

Seeing Belle fret over a comatose Mr. Gold, Mother Superior encourages her to join the others, who may need her resourcefulness to help find Emma. Belle declines, wanting to stay with Mr. Gold, in case he suddenly passes away. Using her wand, Mother Superior conjures a rose in a glass cover and links it to Mr. Gold's lifespan, so Belle will know he is alive, as long as the petals on the flower remain. Belle takes the jar with her when she goes to find her allies, and it remains with her after her journey to the Enchanted Forest. ("The Dark Swan")

During the ball to welcome the heroes to Camelot hosted by Arthur, Belle stands on the sidelines watching the rose instead of dancing. Leroy approaches her and explains that he sees the rose as a sign of hope: while every lost petal means Mr. Gold is closer to death, every petal still on the rose is another chance to save him. Grateful for his encouragement, Belle asks if he would like to dance. ("The Price")

After Third Curse

Six weeks after their departure to Camelot, Belle and the other Storybrooke natives with her are whisked home, after something forces the diner out of Camelot, with Belle still having the magical rose in her possession. ("The Dark Swan")
