Lewis is a character featured in the extended universe of ABC's Once Upon a Time. He débuts, with his only appearance, in the graphic fiction novel, Out of the Past.
History
A couple hundred years before the Dark Curse is cast, when the Jewel of the Realm's captain, Liam Jones, dies from Dreamshade poisoning, Lewis is present for his burial at sea. After this, Killian assumes leadership and renames the ship to the Jolly Roger. ("Good Form," "Out of the Past")
On a journey towards the Southern Isles, Lewis serves as helmsman on the Jolly Roger. As the ship is headed there, the crew are caught in a terrible storm. Lewis keeps the Jolly Roger steady while Killian ensures the other crew are safe below deck. The captain and helmsman discuss the harsh tempest, wondering if they'll find a safe port or calmer waters, as the ship begins to flood, when Killian, with the aid of his spyglass, sights green mist in the distance, which indicates the waters are calmer there. The pair of pirates recognize the fog as one characteristic of the Leviathan Shoals, a feared region of the Enchanted Forest's high seas. Killian directs Lewis to sail there, despite the helmsman's warning that the mist causes hallucinations. Reaching safety, the crew repair the damaged vessel when another ship arrives with an alive Liam, who claims to have escaped death and has since been stuck in the Leviathan Shoals. While Killian is overjoyed to have him back, Lewis insists Liam is an enchantment made by the mist, although the captain doesn't believe it. To escape the shoals, the Jolly Roger distracts the Leviathan as Liam, from his own ship, defeats the sea creature with dynamite. This causes Liam's ship to catch fire, so Killian suggests he can jump into the water and be pulled onto the Jolly Roger. Liam, fearing there are more monsters in the sea, asks Killian to rescue him and put off sailing out of the shoals. Realizing it is a trick, Lewis convinces Killian that the apparition is not his brother, who he knew as a brave man willing to dive into any unknown waters. The crew then sail out of the Leviathan Shoals, leaving the illusion of Liam to perish, as Lewis later comforts Killian over his difficult decision. ("Out of the Past")
