Josh Dallas is the American actor who portrays Prince Charming, David Nolan, Prince James and Prince Charming (Wish Realm) on ABC's Once Upon a Time.
Biography
Joshua "Josh" Paul Dallas, was born on December 18,[2] 1978[3] in Louisville, Kentucky. He grew up right across the Ohio River in New Albany, Indiana,[1][4] and has one brother.[5] Josh attended New Albany Senior Public High School, and was heavily involved in the school's award-winning performing arts programs. This is where the fire was lit that pushed Josh to continue pursing the arts.[1]
While at New Albany High School, at the age of sixteen, Josh received the Sarah Exley Scholarship, a full ride scholarship giving to one American student every three years to study acting at the prestigious Mountview Conservatoire for the Performing Arts in London.[1]
At the age of twenty, Josh landed his first professional job as an actor with the acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Company. He went on to perform with some of the most renowned theater companies in the world, including the Royal National Theatre, the English National Opera, New Shakespeare Company, and The Young Vic to name a few. Never leaving theater far behind, Josh began landing parts in both television and independent films.[1]
Yearning for his American roots after spending ten years in London, Josh made the move back stateside and landed in Hollywood. Five days after being back in the states, he got the call for a movie role as Fandral in the 2011 blockbuster Thor by Marvel Studios, directed by the Oscar nominated director Kenneth Branagh. Due to conflicting filming schedules with Once Upon a Time, he did not reprise the role for the sequel Thor: The Dark World and Zachary Levi replaced him.[1] In February 2018, Dallas joined the cast of NBC's Manifest as Ben Stone.[6]
He has been dating Once Upon a Time co-star Ginnifer Goodwin since the fall of 2011, became engaged in October 2013[7] and married in April 2014.[8] Together, they have two sons, Oliver Finlay Dallas,[9] who was born on May 29, 2014,[10] and Hugo Wilson Dallas, who was born on June 1, 2016.[11]
Trivia

- He was cast as the Asgardian warrior Fandral in the 2011 Marvel superhero film Thor, due to the original actor, Zachary Levi, being unavailable due to scheduling conflicts with the TV series Chuck.[13] Ironically, Josh was unailable for the 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World, due to a scheduling conflict with Once Upon a Time,[14] and the role was recast with Levi, Marvel's original choice.[13]
- During his appearance in the Once Upon a Time episodes "The Shepherd," "Tiny," "Souls of the Departed" and "Sisters," Josh portrayed the uncredited role of Prince James.
- During his appearance in the Once Upon a Time episode, "The Black Fairy," Josh portrayed David Nolan as the disguised form of Gideon.
- Was previously married to English actor Lara Pulver, who later married Once Upon a Time in Wonderland guest star Raza Jaffrey.
- The way David hugs Emma[15] is improvised by Josh Dallas. On NBC's Manifest, Josh's character hugs his daughter in the same way as a call back to Once Upon a Time.[16]
- After the announcement that the seventh season would be the final season of the series, he wrote the following on Instagram:
