John Prowse is the Canadian actor who portrays the Carpenter on ABC's Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.

Biography

Career

John Prowse is well known in Vancouver's film, television and theater world.[1] He recognizable for his early television stints on Canadian television series such as the drama series Da Vinci's Inquest and the police procedural television series Cold Squad. Between 2004 and 2006, he played the role of Colonel Pearson on Stargate SG-1. His film roles include the 2004 science fiction film The Chronicles of Riddick and the 2009 horror film The Uninvited.[2] Other roles of note include Jack Peterson on the 2016 Lucifer episode "Monster", a Fort Douglas motel owner in the 2006 Supernatural episode "Something Wicked", and Mr. Fitz in the 2004 The Dead Zone episode "Cycle of Violence".[3] He has also performed in several theater productions, including several Shakespearean plays. In 2013, he wrote and co-directed the short film Wendy 1968.[2]

Personal Life

Prowse is married to fellow actor Bronwen Smith, the woman who played the Cashier in the Once Upon a Time episode "Firebird". The couple live together in Vancouver and he and his wife are known affectionately in Vancouver's acting world as Johnwen.[1]

In July 2018, on their 15th wedding anniversary, the couple lost everything when their Kitsilano apartment was consumed by a fire which destroyed several buildings. A friend of the couple, Catherine Lough Haggquist, who co-stars as the first Cinderella's Fairy Godmother on Once Upon a Time, started a crowdfunding campaign to help them rebuild their lives.[1]
