Gil McKinney is the American actor who portrays Prince Eric on ABC's Once Upon a Time.
Biography
Mark Gilbert McKinney, professionally known as Gil McKinney, was born on February 5, 1979 in Houston, Texas.[1] He is a graduate of the University of Southern California and earned a bachelor's degree in voice performance with a minor in music theater.[2] His guest starring work on television include The WB's courtroom drama Just Legal, FOX sitcom The Loop, TNT crime series Saving Grace, CBS supernatural thriller Ghost Whisperer, the police procedural oriented shows Without a Trace, CSI, The Mentalist, Castle and Past Life as well as medical drama Grey's Anatomy.[3]
Gil's best known roles have been on ER for twenty-three episodes as Dr. Paul Grady, Derek Bishop on Friday Night Lights and as the noted Henry Winchester on Supernatural. In film, he debuted in the 2003 horror movie Jeepers Creepers II and went to work on Elvis Has Left the Building, Witches' Night, The Grudge 3 and Hitchcock.
Gil married his longtime girlfriend Kristin Randol in 2014.[4] On September 4, 2016, Gil announced the birth of their daughter, Vivienne James, via his Twitter account.[5]
Trivia
- During casting, Gil nabbed the role of Prince Eric by reciting his character's spoken lines during the ball room scene.[6]
- Incidentally, Gil has auditioned for Once Upon a Time twice before, in which he tried out for the role of Daniel, and then Hook.[7]
- During his appearance in the Once Upon a Time episode, "A Wondrous Place", Gil portrayed Prince Eric as the disguised form of Jafar.
- Gil, along with Karen David sang "A Whole New World" from Aladdin during Once Upon a Time's official convention in Vancouver.[8]
- He also sang "If I Only Had a Brain" from The Wizard of Oz.[9]
