The Fairy Godmother is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. She débuts, with her only appearance, in the fourth episode of the first season and is portrayed by co-star Catherine Lough Haggquist.
The Fairy Godmother is based on the character of the same name from Charles Perrault's version of the "Cinderella" fairytale, and the fairy godmother from the Disney film, Cinderella.
History
The Fairy Godmother is patron to the family of King George. Following the death of his son, George is approached by Rumplestiltskin. The wizard reveals that he cannot revive the deceased prince, but he can help in another way. His only condition is that he reveal the location of the Fairy Godmother because he desires the magic wand in her possession. The Dark One also says he will do this in exchange for his help in securing his twin brother. George agrees. ("The Shepherd")
On the night of a ball at Prince Thomas' palace, Cinderella is sadly sweeping when she is approached by a tiny, golden creature. The creature is revealed to be her Fairy Godmother, who grows human-sized in a shower of golden magic. She explains to Cinderella that she will turn her into a beautiful princess in order to take her "to her ball and to her prince" with the help of her magic wand. However, just as the Fairy Godmother is preparing to transform Cinderella, Rumplestiltskin, who has finally tracked her down, arrives, brutally murders her by making her burst into flame and takes her wand. Rumplestiltskin then strikes a deal with Cinderella in exchange for her transformation into a princess. ("The Price of Gold")
The Fairy Godmother's wand is in the possession of Mr. Gold in Storybrooke. He uses the wand to absorb the magic from the Storybrooke mines and then uses the wand to cast a curse over the well to prevent anyone from coming through. Gold mentions to Regina in the mines that the Fairy Godmother is dead and that no one is mourning her, although it is uncertain why. ("Queen of Hearts")
