Dirigibles are vehicles featured on ABC's Once Upon a Time. They first appear in the twenty-third episode of the fifth season.
History
Mr. Hyde is a resident of the Land of Untold Stories, where dirigibles soar the sky. One day, the people of Storybrooke notice a dirigible from the land, carrying its inhabitants that Hyde has loaded onto it, flying over town. Emma and her family follow the aircraft on foot, watching as it goes lower and lower crash lands in the forest. Emma and the others search the aircraft for survivors, but the passengers have already fled.
Mary Margaret wonders what Hyde wants with the people, and Jekyll suggests it might depend on who Hyde brought with him, and the stories that play out could create chaos. Dr. Jekyll offers to use the remains to construct a weapon weapon to beat Hyde, as the dirigible and the baton were made from the same materials. Emma helps collect scraps to create the weapon, during which she develops a hand tremor and sees a vision of herself battling an unknown enemy. Mary Margaret and Hook notice something off with her, but she assures them all is well before walking off into a clearing. Jekyll succeeds in making the weapon and also creates a pair of cuffs from scraps of dirigible. ("Only You," "An Untold Story," "The Savior")
One of the passengers, the Count of Monte Cristo, leaves a note at Granny's Diner asking David and Mary Margaret to meet him by the dirigible, but Regina goes instead to talk him out of killing her friends. He states that not even she can stop him now, which hints at his actions not being his own, with Regina failing to understand what he truly means. Edmond attempts to kill Regina by hurling his sword into her chest, but she stops it in time with magic. ("A Bitter Draught")
At the site of the dirigible, Dr. Jekyll tries to recreate the serum that separated Regina and her other half. He fails in the experiment because the equipment is not as advanced as what he had in the Land of Untold Stories. ("The Other Shoe")
After the curse is cast, the Land of Untold Stories is merged with Storybrooke and a dirigible soars the sky in the new realm. ("Leaving Storybrooke")

Trivia
On-Screen Notes
- A dirigible is featured in the title card for "Only You"[1] and the iTunes/streaming version of "An Untold Story."[2]
Filming Locations
- The fallen dirigible in Season Five was a set built[3] in Burnaby's Central Park.[4] Since the dirigible was going to be there for five-six episodes and two-three months of production time, security was present on set 24/7 so people wouldn't come and destroy or vandalize the set.[3]
