David M. Barrett, also credited as Dave Barrett,[1] is an episode director for ABC's Once Upon a Time.


He began his career as a second unit director in television, working on the series Pacific Blue in 1996. He made his episode directing debut with Pacific Blue in 2000. He then directed episodes of Tru Calling, Without a Trace, The O.C., and Jake 2.0.

He created the series The Mountain and served as an Executive Producer for the show's pilot episode. He remained an Executive Consultant throughout its run in the 2004 to 2005 season. He also directed episodes of Smallville, Veronica Mars, Startrek Enterprise, and two episodes for the second season of Cold Case in that season. He became a producer and director for the first season of E-Ring in the 2005 to 2006 season.

He rejoined Cold Case as a Supervising Producer and director for the fourth season in the 2006 to 2007 season. In the 2007 to 2008 season he worked as a Co-Executive Producer for both Moonlight and Bionic Woman. He directed episodes of Moonlight only.

In the 2008 to 2009 season he worked as an episodic director, helming episodes of The Mentalist, Eleventh Hour, Crash, CSI: NY, and Life on Mars. He directed episodes of The Cleaner in summer 2009. He returned as a director for The Mentalist in the 2009 to 2010 season. He also directed episodes of Melrose Place, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Vampire Diaries, Castle, and V. In the 2010 to 2011 season he returned to Castle, The Mentalist, and V. He also directed episodes of The Gates, Nikita, Human Target, and Supernatural.

In the 2011 to 2012 season he joined the crew of Once Upon a Time as an episode director, helming the episode "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter". He also worked as a director and Co-executive Producer for The Secret Circle. He helmed episodes of Blue Bloods and Supah Ninjas during the season.
