David Cubitt is the American actor who portrays Robert on ABC's Once Upon a Time.
Biography
David was born in England in 1965 to a Dutch mother, Yeta, and an English father, David, he moved with his parents to Vancouver, British Columbia when he was only six months old. While attending university, he worked on a cable music video show called "Night Vision," performing in comedic wrap-around segments. Cubitt describes this experience as "the beginning of [his] love affair with acting."
Cubitt continued to study acting full-time, until he was kicked out of theatre school where he was told he "couldn't act and would never work." Soon afterward, Cubitt landed a leading role in the feature Alive, starring Ethan Hawke. The film was directed by Frank Marshall, and recounts the story of the Uruguayan rugby team who was stranded in the Andes after a plane crash.
Alive helped spark Cubitt's career and it wasn't long before he landed a series regular role on the hit Canadian series Traders, a show about the high-stakes lives of a group of investment bankers. David starred on the show for three and half years, during which time he won the 1997 Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role and the 1998 Gemini Award for Best Dramatic Series.[2]
He has also starred in the American series Robbery Homicide Division and has appeared as Det. Lee Scanlon in the NBC series Medium. He first appeared in season 1 and appeared until the show was cancelled. He appeared in the NBC disaster miniseries 10.5 and 10.5: Apocalypse.
Trivia
- He has a personal belief that there is a soul and that it carries on when the body stops working.[3]
- Has played Luke Roessler's father on two occasions. Once on the Bates Motel episode "The Vault," where Luke plays young Norman Bates and David plays his father Sam, and again on Once Upon a Time.
- Acts opposite Once Upon a Time and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland guest stars Andrew Jenkins and Sarah-Jane Redmond on Freeform's Siren. Cubitt plays Ted Pownall, while Jenkins and Redmond play his son and wife, respectively.
