When I first got the audition for the show, I thought: ‘well there is no way I can play this because I’m not old enough to play the traditional Captain Hook’. We discussed it and, together with the creators, we managed to come up with something that is quite different.

Colin O'Donoghue is the Irish actor who portrays Hook, Hook (Wish Realm) and Rogers on ABC's Once Upon a Time.

Colin O'Donoghue was born on January 26,[1] 1981[2] in Drogheda of the Republic of Ireland to a Roman Catholic family.[3] His parents are Mary and Con O'Donoghue, and maternal grandparents are Anne and Arthur Dunne. Colin is married to Helen O'Donoghue.[4] On August 1, 2013, they welcomed their first child, Evan.[5] In May 2017, the couple welcomed their second child together, Millie.[6]

At eighteen, Colin attended Dublin's Gaiety School of Acting[7] and completed the Two Year Professional Actor trainee programme.[8]

Colin's early career was mainly split between theater and television work in Ireland and the UK. At the November 2003 1st Irish Film and Television Awards ceremony, Colin won the Irish Film and Television Award for "Best New Talent" for his role as Norman Quested in the television drama Home For Christmas.[9]

Primarily, Colin has starred in Irish and United Kingdom movies and television shows. He also made a notable appearance in the third season of 2009 historical fiction series The Tudors as Duke Philip of Bavaria. He caught the eye of a Los Angeles agent from his appearance on The Tudors[4] that landed him his very first Hollywood movie role was in the horror thriller flick The Rite.[7] In 2019, O'Donoghue appeared in the Netflix anthology series Heartstrings, a series based on several Dolly Parton songs.[10]

From 2003 to May 2013, he was part of a five piece Ireland based band The Enemies. As a result of his Once Upon a Time filming obligations, Colin left the band to continue acting on the show.[11]

To everyone, I have had and will continue to have the most amazing experience playing Hook on @onceabcofficial until we wrap Season 7! Thank you so much for the support and laughs over the years! You are the best. Much love, Col #oncers #hookers #onceuponatime[19]

Sneed" episode, O'Donoghue plays a "seductive outlaw," an archetype not unfamiliar to him after several seasons playing Captain Hook on the fairytale drama Once Upon a Time.”
