—Captain Silver to Liam Jones src

Captain Silver is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. He débuts, with his only appearance, in the fifteenth episode of the fifth season and is portrayed by guest star Costas Mandylor.

Captain Silver is based on Long John Silver from the novel, Treasure Island.

History

Before First Curse

After overhearing the Jones brothers, Liam and Killian, discuss leaving servitude to join the king's navy, Captain Silver antagonizes them for aiming so high in life. Killian, quick to get angry, tries to attack the captain, but Liam holds him back. The captain allows Liam to leave the ship to collect his wages, but he makes Killian stay behind. While Liam is gone, Captain Silver tempts Killian into drunkenness and steals his silver coins, which is needed to enlist in the navy. By the next morning, when Liam comes back with navy documents for himself and his brother, the captain tells him to leave alone, or stay with Killian on the ship. Not willing to abandon his sibling, Liam rips up the documents. On a quest to get the eye of the storm, a jewel the king will pay handsomely for, Captain Silver attempts to sail the ship into a hurricane. Knowing this will doom everyone on board, Liam and Killian threaten him with a bloody siege, until he surrenders. After the captain is taken hostage on the ship, Liam begins plotting a course to get the ship to safety. However, because of a deal with Hades, Liam takes the ship into the hurricane, allowing all the crew, including Captain Silver, to perish, while he and his brother survive. Following his death, Captain Silver goes to the Underworld. ("The Brothers Jones")

After Third Curse

In the Underworld, Captain Silver realizes Liam is responsible for his and the other sailors' deaths, after seeing him with Hades. Taking both Jones brothers to the fiery abyss, he attempts to exact revenge by damning them to a worse place. Although Liam insists Killian didn't do anything wrong to deserve this, Captain Silver reasons that Killian should have died on that ship like everyone else. With his own endgame in mind for Killian, Hades intervenes by sending Captain Silver into the chasm below instead. While Silver is condemned to a worse place, the remaining crew later ascend to Mount Olympus with Liam. ("The Brothers Jones")
