Behemoth is a character on ABC's Once Upon a Time. He débuts, with his only appearance, in the sixth episode of the first season and is portrayed by co-star Robert Maillet.
Behemoth is based on the biblical beast of the same name.
History
Behemoth, a colossal warrior, duels with Prince James, when the latter's father, King George, seeks to make a deal with King Midas in exchange for gold. As King Midas wishes his kingdom to be free of a vicious dragon, Prince James must prove himself strong enough to kill the beast by first defeating Behemoth. In what seems to be a smooth victory, Prince James fatally wounds his opponent. While Behemoth's body lies motionlessly, Prince James proudly delivers a speech to his men. In the next instant, however, Behemoth rises to deliver a surprise stab through the prince's chest; killing him instantly. With his strength spent, Behemoth collapses and dies. ("The Shepherd")
Trivia
Other Notes
- The Behemoth is a biblical beast whose true identity is not well-understood. It has been assumed to be anything from a hippopotamus, water buffalo, crocodile or elephant because of the fact the biblical mention states the Behemoth's tail "moves like a cedar", a description that can fit a variety of animals.[citation needed]
