—The Apprentice (Wish Realm) to Henry Mills src

The Author's Pen is a magical item featured on ABC's Once Upon a Time. It first appears in the twenty-first episode of the seventh season.

History

After Fifth Curse

The pen is guarded by a blind Apprentice in the Wish Realm. When Henry claims to be the Author and owner of the pen, the Apprentice receives proof of this by looking into Henry's memories of how he first became the Author and all the stories he wrote. Afterward, the pen mysteriously appears in Henry's hand, having accepted him as the true Author. Henry later absorbs ink from Wish Cruella's hair so he can use it to write with the pen, however, Wish Rumplestiltskin steals it from him so Wish Henry can use it to rewrite his own story. Weaver, horrified to see that the other Dark One has the Author's pen, tells young Henry that he doesn't have to honor the deal and even offers to help him find a loophole to break it. Henry coldly questions why he would do that when he is going to get everything he wants. After giving Henry the pen, Rumplestiltskin dictates out loud for him to write that the Guardian's powers, which would've taken away his and Weaver's Dark One powers, are no more. ("Homecoming")

Rumplestiltskin demonstrates to Henry his plans for the heroes, all of whom he has created storybooks for and wants to banish them to alternate realms where they live out unhappy endings. He goads the boy into channeling his darkness into power, which helps trigger the opening of a portal that banishes the Blue Fairy to her prison realm. The darkness in Henry's blood eventually reaches a boiling point, helping to open several portals to the alternate realms. When Henry corners Roni and prepares to end her life, Roni agrees to let him kill her if it means her death can prove to him that his family will still love him no matter how much bad he has done. Roni braces for the stab of her son's sword that will end her life, but Henry eventually drops his weapon and hugs her, having finally let go of his deep-seated hatred. ("Leaving Storybrooke")
