1920s England is a world featured on ABC's Once Upon a Time. It appears in the eighteenth episode of the fourth season.

1920s England is based on England from the novel "The Hundred and One Dalmatians", and the Disney film One Hundred and One Dalmatians.

History

Before First Curse

Not much is known about 1920s England, except that it is one of the realms the Author, Isaac Heller, has traveled to during his search for a good story. A famed dog trainer, Madeline, strives to keep her disturbed daughter, Cruella, locked in the attic after she not only poisons her own father, but also her two consecutive stepfathers. Hearing of Madeline's talent with dogs, Isaac interviews her, believing her ability comes from magic, but she insists it is only from hard work. Deeming this too boring of a story, he inquiries after the three male portraits in her home, suspecting she is thrice divorced or widowed, causing an angry Madeline to throw him out. From her bedroom window, Cruella convinces Isaac to help her escape and she will give him a proper story. They go to a nightclub together, where she leads him to believe her mother killed her three husbands. Smitten with Cruella, Isaac reveals the magic he possesses in his quill and ink that allow him to write stories into reality. Asking her to run away with him, he gifts her the power to manipulate animals, as she returns home one last time to confront her mother. Madeline warns Issac about her daughter's true nature, and he doesn't believe her at first, until he realizes Cruella took his quill. After Cruella murders Madeline, Isaac steals back the quill, using it to remove her ability to ever kill anyone again. ("Sympathy for the De Vil")

  • Fittingly enough, the in-universe name of the melody that Cruella hears on the radio is "The Toast of Beak Street". ("Sympathy for the De Vil")

Filming Locations

• Cruella's attic was a set built on a soundstage. The rest of the house, was filmed on location, at the Casa Mia mansion in Vancouver.
  • The club scenes for this episode were filmed in the basement of the house, which was also used as Cruella and Madeline's house.
